Suzuki officially withdraws investment from Changan and Changan continues to own the Changan Suzuki brand through authorization

After Japanese media revealed that Suzuki would withdraw its investment from Changan, there has been new progress on this matter recently.

On June 22, Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd. issued a statement saying that Changan Automobile plans to acquire the Changan Suzuki shares held by Suzuki.

It is reported that Chongqing Changan Suzuki Automobile Co., Ltd. was established in May 1993, with Changan Automobile holding 50% of the shares, Japan Suzuki Corporation holding 40% and Suzuki (China) Investment Co., Ltd. holding 10%. After the completion of this acquisition, Japan Suzuki will no longer hold shares in Changan Suzuki, and Changan Automobile may wholly own "Changan Suzuki". Like Changhe Suzuki, Japan Suzuki will no longer bear any responsibilities of "Changan Suzuki Company", which also means that Suzuki has officially withdrawn from the Chinese market after 25 years of operation.

However, according to the statement, Changan Automobile said that Changan Automobile and Suzuki Motor Corporation continue to maintain good technical and trade cooperation and continue to promote the operation of Changan Suzuki brand in China. This means that the Changan Suzuki brand will continue to be retained, and Changan Automobile can continue to produce and maintain Changan Suzuki brand cars, but not in a joint venture manner, but in an authorized use manner.
