Eastern Sichuan and Western Hubei: Lu Yu's "The Classic of Tea" said: "The gorges and rivers in the Bashan Mountains are so large that two people can hug them together." The gorges and rivers in the Bashan Mountains refer to present-day Eastern Sichuan and Western Hubei. There are such outstanding tea trees in this area, but there is no evidence that anyone has used them to make tea.
Jiangsu and Zhejiang: Recently, some people have proposed that it began with the ancient Yue culture represented by the Hemudu culture. The Jiangsu and Zhejiang areas are currently the most developed regions in my country's tea industry. If history could take root here, it would be a very meaningful topic. In fact, I believe that in ancient times, there must have been tea trees of natural origin in more than one place. The custom of drinking tea may not necessarily develop in a place where there are tea trees. We mentioned earlier that tea was invented by Shennong, so where was it grown? If we find the intersection of the "original habitat of tea trees" and the "Shennong activity area", we may have the answer, or at least narrow the "range" of the answer.
Inventing the way to drink tea How did humans invent the habit of drinking tea? Or how did tea originate? The study of this issue has always been a "basic issue" in tea studies. Because as any tea scholar or tea worker, if you can't even explain "how tea came from", it would be too inadequate. Now there are many answers to this question:
1. Offering: This theory holds that tea and some other plants were first used as offerings. Later, some people tried them and found that they were harmless. So they "went from offerings to vegetables, to medicine," and finally became beverages.
2. Medicine: This theory holds that tea "was first introduced into human society as medicine." Shennong's Herbal Classic states: "Shennong tasted hundreds of herbs and encountered seventy-two poisons a day, which he solved with tea."
3. Food: "In ancient times, people ate grass and drank water" and "food is the most important thing for people". Food comes first, which conforms to the evolutionary laws of human society.
4. Synchronize: "The initial ways of using tea may be as food to chew, as food to roast or cook, and gradually as medicine to drink." The comparison and accumulation of these methods eventually developed into "drinking tea" is the best way.
The most useless of the above statements is the fourth one, which combines the previous three statements into one and becomes its own "foolproof" explanation. Perhaps this explanation is the most appropriate.
Now we can prove that tea has been known and used in China for a very long time, and that tea trees have been planted and tea leaves have been picked and processed very early on. However, it can also be verified that tea was widely consumed by all social classes around the time when Lu Yu's "The Classic of Tea" was handed down in the Tang Dynasty. Therefore, there is a poem in the Song Dynasty that says, "Ever since Lu Yu was born, people have been studying physiognomy and studying spring tea." In other words, after tea was invented, it was not well known to the public for more than a thousand years.

5. The origin of tea trees: China is the first country to discover and utilize tea trees and is known as the motherland of tea. Written records show that our ancestors began to cultivate and utilize tea trees more than 3,000 years ago. However, like the origin of any species, the origin and existence of tea must have been before humans discovered and used tea trees. It was not until a long, long time later that it was discovered and used by humans. Humankind's experience with tea use was also passed down from generation to generation, slowly expanding from local areas. It was only after a very long time that it was gradually recorded in writing.

The origin of tea trees has always been controversial. With the development of research technology and new discoveries, we have gradually reached a consensus that China is the origin of tea trees, and confirmed that the southwestern region of China, including Yunnan, Guizhou, and Sichuan, is the center of the tea tree's origin. Due to geological changes and human cultivation, tea trees began to spread throughout the country and gradually spread to all parts of the world.

1. Origin and Place of Origin

When did tea trees originate? It must have been far earlier than the 3,000 years ago when written records began. The problem that historians could not verify was finally solved by botanists. They traced the origin of tea trees using plant taxonomy methods, and after a series of analytical studies, they believed that the origin of tea trees dates back 60 to 70 million years.

The tea tree is native to China and has been recognized by the world since ancient times. It was only after 1824 that wild tea trees were discovered in India. Some foreign scholars objected to China being the origin of tea trees, sparking controversy in the international academic community. These dissenters all base their argument on the wild tea trees in India, and believe that there are no wild tea trees in China. In fact, China mentioned wild tea trees in Er Ya around 200 AD, and current data shows that wild tea trees have been found in 198 locations in 10 provinces and regions across the country. One of them in Yunnan is about 1,700 years old. There are more than 10 trees with a trunk diameter of more than one meter in Yunnan province alone. In some areas, wild tea tree communities are as large as thousands of acres. Therefore, from ancient times to the present, the wild large tea trees discovered in my country are the largest in the world in terms of their early age, size, number, wide distribution, and diverse characteristics. In addition, it has been verified that the wild tea trees discovered in India and the tea trees introduced from China to India are both variants of the Chinese tea tree. Therefore, it is concluded that China is the origin of tea trees. In recent decades, the combination of tea science and botanical research has made more detailed and in-depth analysis and demonstration of the origin of tea trees from different perspectives such as tree species and geological changes and climate changes, further proving that southwest my country is the origin of tea trees.
