Upgrade! Apple iOS 15.2 is officially released: fixes a lot of bugs and adds many new features

Apple today released iOS 15.2 and iPadOS 15.2, the second major updates to the iOS and iPadOS 15 operating systems released in September 2021.

The update to iOS and iPadOS 15.2 is available as a free download and all eligible devices can get the software over the air in the Settings app. To install the new version of the system, go to Settings > General > Software Update. It may take some time for the update to be rolled out to all users.

iOS 15.2 adds App Privacy Report, a feature designed to let you know how often apps access permission-restricted information like the camera and microphone. It also lets you know the domains that apps and websites are contacting so you can keep an eye on what's happening behind the scenes.

The update also supports communication safety and Apple Music Voice plans for devices owned by children, in addition to introducing the concept of contacts for managing data after a person dies and adding improvements to Find My Email and Hide My Email.

Apple Music Voice Plan

Apple Music Voice Plan is a new subscription tier that lets you use Siri to access all your songs, playlists, and stations in Apple Music

Just ask Siri to suggest music based on your listening history and preferences

Play Again gives you access to a list of your recently played music

Privacy Protection

With the App Privacy Report in Settings, you can see how often apps have accessed your location, photos, camera, microphone, contacts, etc., as well as their network activity in the past seven days.

The Communication Safety setting enables parents to enable warnings when children receive or send photos containing nudity.

Siri and Search

Expanded guidance across Siri, Spotlight, and Safari Search to help kids and parents stay safe online and get help in unsafe situations.

Apple ID

Digital Legacy allows you to designate certain people as legacy contacts, who can access your iCloud account and personal information after your death.

camera

Macro Photo Control can be enabled in the settings of iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max to switch to the ultra-wide-angle lens to take macro photos and videos.

TV Apps

The Store tab lets you browse, buy, and rent movies and TV shows all in one place.

CarPlay

Enhanced city maps in Apple Maps, providing road details such as turn lanes, medians, bike lanes, and crosswalks in supported cities.

This version also includes the following enhancements for iPhone:

Hide My Mail creates unique, random email addresses for iCloud+ users in the Mail app

When in power reserve, Find My can locate your iPhone for up to five hours.

Stocks allows you to view the currency of a stock and see year-to-date performance when viewing a chart

Reminders and Notes now allow deleting or renaming labels

This version also includes bug fixes for iPhone:

Siri may not respond when VoiceOver is running and the iPhone is locked

ProRAW photos may appear overexposed when viewed in third-party photo editing applications

HomeKit scenes, including garage door opening, may not work from CarPlay when your iPhone is locked.

CarPlay might not update "Now Playing" information for some apps

Video streaming apps may fail to load content on iPhone 13 models

Calendar events for Microsoft Exchange users may appear on the wrong days
