1. Comprehensively understand your own health status

People with obvious organic lesions of the heart, liver, lungs, kidneys and other internal organs, and those with hypertension stage III or above, should not enter high altitude areas. People with organic diseases, severe anemia or severe hypertension have poor adaptability to the plateau environment. As the body needs to adapt to the plateau environment, patients with organ diseases are at risk of further aggravation of their condition once they enter the plateau.

2. Stay positive

Good psychological quality is the panacea for overcoming and defeating altitude sickness. Maintaining an open-minded and optimistic mood can reduce the physical discomfort caused by altitude sickness. On the contrary, those who are worried and anxious all day long and become extremely nervous at the slightest discomfort will make the physical discomfort worse, affect the immunity, and prolong the self-healing time.

3. Avoid smoking and drinking, and avoid fatigue

1. Choice of transportation to the plateau

However, since it takes a long time to enter the plateau by car, accommodation conditions are limited along the way, and physical energy is consumed a lot, you should prepare water or drinks as well as delicious and easily digestible food to replenish the body's necessary water and calories in time.

2. Quickly and accurately respond to abnormal situations

If you experience severe symptoms of altitude sickness on the way to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, you should take measures immediately, take medicines to prevent and treat acute altitude sickness in time, and breathe oxygen in severe cases. If you experience more serious symptoms or even coma, you should go to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment as soon as possible and transfer to a lower altitude area for treatment and recovery.

Adapting to the plateau

1. Smoothly and autonomously pass the adaptation period

When arriving at the plateau, most people will experience varying degrees of hypoxia symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest tightness, and dyspnea. Be careful to avoid strenuous exercise. After 2 to 4 days, the above symptoms will generally improve or disappear.

Be careful not to become dependent on oxygen. If the above symptoms are not serious, it is recommended that you do not use oxygen so that you can adapt to the plateau environment more quickly.

2. Pay attention to the plateau diet

After entering the plateau, you should eat more carbohydrates and easily digestible foods, as well as fruits, vegetables and other foods rich in vitamins. Sweet tea or butter tea with regional characteristics is also a good choice. Be careful not to have too much dinner, which will increase the burden on the body.

3. Pay attention to your daily routine

When you first arrive at the plateau, avoid fast walking and running, and keep a slow pace of movement. After a week, you can gradually increase the amount of activity. In the first few days after arriving at the plateau, try not to take a bath to avoid catching a cold.

4. Beware of heat stroke

The solar radiation on the plateau is strong, and long-term outdoor activities in summer are prone to heatstroke. Therefore, you can prepare cooling oil, Rendan, etc. for outdoor activities on the plateau, and keep your body hydrated.
