China Academy of Information and Communications Technology: China's 5G mobile phone shipments reached 128 million units in the first half of 2021, a year-on-year increase of 100.9%

China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) released an analysis report on the operation of the domestic mobile phone market in June 2021. According to data from CAICT, in the first half of 2021, the overall shipments of the domestic mobile phone market grew rapidly, reaching 174 million units, a year-on-year increase of 13.7%, of which 5G mobile phones reached 128 million units, a year-on-year increase of 100.9%.

In June 2021, the domestic mobile phone market continued to be affected by factors such as the early release of demand (shipments in the first quarter increased by 100.1% year-on-year), shortages of mobile chips, and the absence of Huawei, and continued its year-on-year downward trend, but the decline narrowed from more than 30% in April and May to 10%, and achieved a month-on-month increase of 11.7%.

From January to June 2021, shipments of 5G mobile phones reached 128 million units, accounting for 73.4% of mobile phone shipments in the same period.

From January to June 2021, a total of 213 new mobile phone models were launched, a year-on-year decrease of 0.5%. Among them, 110 5G mobile phones were launched, a year-on-year increase of 1.9%, accounting for 51.6% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period.

From January to June 2021, the cumulative shipments of domestic brand mobile phones reached 155 million units, a year-on-year increase of 11.5%, accounting for 89.2% of the mobile phone shipments in the same period; the cumulative number of new models launched was 194, a year-on-year decrease of 1.0%, accounting for 91.1% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period.

From January to June 2021, smartphone shipments reached 171 million units, a year-on-year increase of 14.8%, accounting for 98.2% of mobile phone shipments in the same period.

From January to June 2021, a total of 175 new smartphone models were launched, a year-on-year increase of 5.4%, accounting for 82.2% of the number of new models launched during the same period.
