Cook plans to retire? He told the media that he will try his best to train a successor

NetEase Technology News, October 25, according to CNBC website, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that he plans to train as many candidates as possible to succeed him as Apple CEO.

"I think one of my responsibilities as CEO is to do everything I can to develop as many qualified candidates as possible to be CEO, and that's what I'm doing," Cook said. "Then, the board will make the decision at the appropriate time."

Cook and Angela Ahrendts, Apple's senior vice president of retail, were interviewed by BuzzFeed, an American news aggregation website, and the content of the interview was published on October 24. Although there is no sign that Cook intends to retire soon, Ahrendts' management background has long made her a strong contender for Apple CEO.

Ahrendts, the former chief executive of British luxury brand Burberry Group, was recruited to Apple by Cook in 2014. She told BuzzFeed that rumors that she was Cook's top successor were "fake news" and "silly."

Although Cook is more moderate than his predecessor Steve Jobs, he has become more and more impressive in his political speeches over the past few years. For example, Cook has publicly opposed the Trump administration's stance on climate change and immigration. But Cook told BuzzFeed that he is not worried that Apple will be punished for these remarks because he is cautious about speaking out on issues that may involve the company.

"The reality is we stay out of politics," Cook said. "We do participate in some policy discussions, but we don't engage in too much discussion on issues that concern us. That's not what we want to do. I think most people would agree that if you're factual, even if they disagree with your position, they'll respect you.

The iPhone X, one of the most anticipated iPhone launches, will go on sale this week, and initial supplies of the phone may reportedly be extremely limited — prompting a BuzzFeed reporter to joke that customers should start setting up tents in front of Apple stores now.

Cook said: "We will wait and see. But we will do our best to speed up production." (Liu Chun)
