For every extra hour you sit, a slim waist disappears from the world

Friends, are you sitting now? Do you know that "sitting for a long time" has become a world-class health killer, and the World Health Organization has also classified "sitting for a long time" as a global non-communicable disease.

Nowadays, whether at work or in life, computers, mobile phones and other media extend our senses, but also make us lazy, and we can handle life by sitting. In this case, life becomes a trivial matter. Most of the time, we let our butts bear the weight of our whole body.

Don’t think that you can be optimistic and say that pressure is bullshit. How heavy you weigh, how much pressure you will put on your butt.

In the Stone Age, about 50,000 years ago, walking was the norm for human life. At that time, human energy consumption was 1,240 calories per day, and 1 calorie was approximately equal to the energy consumed by an average adult man walking 30 steps. This means that in the Stone Age, "people" walked about 37,200 steps a day.

Now, considering factors such as genetic evolution, each adult needs to consume 490 calories a day to stay healthy, which means that a person needs to walk about 14,700 steps a day.

However, under the combined influence of occupation, environment, travel mode and personal living habits, modern people only walk about 9,000 steps a day. On weekends, this number will be even lower. After all, it's a holiday, so how can you not go to Beijing and lie down?

So, how long does it take to be considered “sitting for a long time”?

Academically, sedentary behavior is defined as any behavior that consumes less than or equal to 1.5 metabolic equivalents of energy when sitting or leaning while awake for more than 2 hours. This means that you need to stand up and move around at least every two hours.

Sitting still for a long time can cause many adverse effects on the human body.

Sitting for a long time is the culprit of many chronic diseases and greatly affects the cardiopulmonary function. Studies have shown that for every additional hour of sitting time, the risk of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease will increase by 11%. Teenagers who play games for more than 3 hours a day have a much higher risk of heart disease than ordinary teenagers. In addition, the damage caused by sitting for a long time to the cardiopulmonary function is difficult to compensate for by other sports. This means that the damage caused by sitting for a long time is likely to be irreversible.

In addition, sitting for a long time can cause obesity. The "Report on the Nutrition and Chronic Disease Status of Chinese Residents (2020)" shows that more than 50% of Chinese residents are overweight or obese, which is highly related to people's sedentary habits. What's more terrible is that the obesity caused by sitting for a long time is often not so "uniform". If you are in a "sitting" state for a long time, your limbs may not change significantly, but your waist circumference will increase.

That's not all, studies have confirmed that "sitting for a long time" is also a killer of mental health. People who sit for a long time have a greatly increased risk of depression.

In life, how can we avoid the harm caused by "sitting for a long time"?

First of all, we need to solve the problem of "long time".

Even if you are addicted to work and study, you should stand up every hour to drink water and walk around. You can sit and stand alternately for 30 minutes, or set an alarm on your phone to remind you to move every 45 minutes.

Secondly, it is a question of how to "sit". When sitting, try to sit up straight, or lean on a chair back that fits the curvature of your waist to reduce the pressure on your lumbar spine. Keeping the computer screen at eye level can effectively relax your neck and avoid becoming a "Yuanmou Man".

Finally, not only "sitting for a long time", but also "lying down for a long time", "standing for a long time" and "squatting for a long time" are not good for your health. It is better to change your movements more often and mobilize the bones and muscles of the whole body to keep your body in the best condition.
