Zou Yu, member of the Party Committee and director of the Political Department of the Chongqing Emergency Management Bureau, informed the media on the 21st that the "Yangtze River Flood No. 5 in 2020" and the "Jialing River Flood No. 2 in 2020" passed through Chongqing, causing 263,200 people to be affected, 251,000 people to evacuate urgently, and direct economic losses of 2.45 billion yuan. So far, no casualties have been caused.


Affected by the continuous heavy rainfall in the Sichuan Basin, the Yangtze River formed the 2020 No. 5 flood and the Jialing River formed the 2020 No. 2 flood. This is the largest flood in Chongqing's major rivers since the flood season this year. It is also a rare flood in the history of the Yangtze River and Jialing River in the Chongqing section. On the morning of August 20, the flood peaks of "Yangtze River Flood No. 5 in 2020" and "Jialing River Flood No. 2 in 2020" have passed through the central urban area of ​​Chongqing.
The Chongqing Municipal Government Information Office held a press conference on Chongqing's flood prevention, rescue and post-disaster relief and reconstruction that day. Zou Yu introduced that this time the flood peak passed through, the Chongqing sections of the Yangtze River and Jialing River were significantly exceeded the flood control level, which had a great impact on Chongqing's Tongnan, Tongliang, Hechuan, Beibei, Yongchuan, Jiangjin and the central urban area of ​​the main urban area. The flood prevention situation is very serious.
As of 8:00 a.m. on August 20, the peak of the flood caused 263,200 people in 15 districts and counties of Chongqing to be affected, 251,000 people to take emergency shelter, 132,700 people to be urgently relocated and resettled, 3,444 people to require emergency life assistance, and 23,700 shops, 860 enterprises, institutions and commercial markets, 320 riverside roads, 148 bridges, 194 garages, 42,000 parking spaces, 663 motor vehicles, 70 docks and stations, 84 riverside parks and squares were submerged by the floods. 4,095 houses collapsed and 8,636 hectares of crops were affected.
After the disaster occurred, the city mobilized a combined emergency rescue team of 28,000 people and more than 3,400 large-scale rescue equipment to participate in the front-line flood control and rescue work.
In response to this flood, Chongqing has arranged to allocate 19.8 million yuan in disaster relief funds in advance, and has urgently dispatched 94,000 pieces of relief supplies and a large amount of drinking water, convenience foods, etc. to support the disaster-stricken areas. The affected counties and districts adopted various measures, such as setting up tents, vacating classrooms and public housing, and organizing people to stay with relatives and friends, to ensure the transfer and resettlement of the affected people. They also promptly distributed relief supplies such as quilts, clothes, bread, milk, and mineral water to the victims, ensuring that the affected people had food to eat, clothes to wear, temporary housing, clean water to drink, and timely medical treatment for their illnesses.
