In the "Poetry" chapter of the 2021 hit movie "My Fathers and Me", Zhang Ziyi plays Master Yu, a gunpowder engraver in aerospace systems. In the film, one detail is impressive: Master Yu's assistant accidentally touched the tool on the table when he was taking something, and when the tool fell and came into contact with the residual gunpowder, it instantly caused an explosion, and flames flew everywhere...

This is the gunpowder engraver - a profession that involves constant danger but is indispensable.

One of the prototypes of "Master Yu" in the movie story is the great craftsman Xu Liping.

"Every time you cut, you can hear your own heartbeat. You carve tiny pieces on gunpowder and there cannot be even a hair's breadth of error. Every great nation's weapon cannot be made without you. You are a craftsman, and you are a craftsman of a great nation." This was the award speech given to Xu Liping at the 2015 "Moving China" ceremony.

He has worked in the "explosive pile" for more than 30 years

But I never thought of leaving

Xu Liping is the leader of the solid fuel surface shaping group of aerospace engines at the 7416 Plant of the Fourth Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation. He has been working in this position known as "working in the explosives pile" for more than 30 years.

Xu Liping clearly remembers the first lesson the master taught him when he first joined the factory at the age of 19. "At that time, the master took me to deal with waste medicine blocks. Bang, a fire was lit, and then there was a huge roar, dazzling flames, and mushroom clouds rising into the sky. Even if you stand more than ten meters away, the heat wave is still unbearable."

This lesson left a deep impression on him. From then on, Xu Liping realized that if he wanted to avoid danger, he had to be bold and careful and practice using the knife well.

"It's so dangerous, have you ever thought about changing your job?" Xu Liping's answer was: "No matter how dangerous the job is, someone has to do it, so why shouldn't I be that person?"

0.5mm is the maximum error allowed for the surface precision of solid rocket propellants. Today, Xu Liping has already mastered his unique skills and can achieve a carving accuracy of less than 0.2mm. "Whenever I see the Long March rockets and Shenzhou series spacecraft soaring into the sky, the pride and excitement in my heart cannot be replaced by any honor."

In 2021, my country's Shenzhou XII and Shenzhou XIII manned spacecraft were successfully launched. Xu Liping's team participated in the micro-shaping of the solid fuel surface of the escape system.

The Shenzhou series escape tower has always been called the life tower for astronauts. In case of an accident, it can help astronauts escape from danger. Xu Liping said, "Because it is related to the safety of astronauts, it has higher quality requirements than other products, and the operation process will be more meticulous. The quality of this product must be absolutely reliable."

When Shenzhou-12 and Shenzhou-13 were launched, Xu Liping said frankly that "my heart was hanging." "I was afraid that the escape tower would play a role, because if it played a role, there would be some problems with the launch. But if the escape tower was really needed, I hoped it would be foolproof. But what I hoped most was to just throw it away every time."

Only when the commander-in-chief gave the order to jettison the escape tower did Xu Liping feel relieved, "because that meant the launch was basically successful."

When carving, they carve with the mentality of ensuring that nothing goes wrong; after the rocket is launched, they hope that what they have made will never be used. This is the inner reflection of Xu Liping and his team members. "Obscure is actually the working state of our entire aerospace system. It is the joint efforts of all aerospace workers that have created so many aerospace miracles."

To ensure safety, Xu Liping also designed, produced and improved 30 types of knives, 9 of which were applied for national patents and one was named "Liping Knife" by the unit.

Now, one of Xu Liping's main focuses in his work is to train young people and help them grow rapidly. "There are more than a dozen people born in the 1990s in our team alone."

Over the years, Xu Liping has trained many apprentices, and his apprentices also have their own apprentices, and the aerospace spirit has been passed down from generation to generation in this way.

In the new year, Xu Liping hopes that the country's aerospace industry will continue to develop rapidly. He also hopes that the epidemic will pass soon so that he can go out for a walk with his parents.

At the end of the "Poem" chapter of "My Fathers and Me", a poem written by parents who are astronauts to their children has brought tears to the eyes of countless people: "Fuel is something that ignites itself and illuminates others; rockets are something that abandons itself for dreams; life is something that is used to burn; death is something that verifies life; the universe is something that makes death insignificant..."
