Problematic cribs named! How can you buy a safe and reliable crib?

Infancy is a period of rapid growth and development for babies, and sleeping and playing are the two main needs of this stage.

Therefore, the "crib" has become the most frequently used "prop" in babies' daily lives.

However, CCTV had previously reported on "problematic baby beds", exposing the uneven quality of such products on the market, which attracted the attention of many parents.

The Shanghai Municipal Market Supervision Bureau conducted random inspections on 30 batches of baby cribs sold online and found that nearly 50% of them were of substandard quality. Some brand styles had multiple substandard items, which is chilling.

So, how to choose a baby bed? What should you pay attention to when using it? Today we will answer your questions one by one!

1. Look at the design. The corners and edges of the baby crib should be rounded or chamfered as much as possible to avoid injuries.

In addition, remember the following "four don'ts":

There should be no protruding structures or column designs to prevent children's clothing from getting caught and causing suffocation.

There should be no cracks or insect bites on the wood.

No splinters or sharp edges that can be touched.

Be careful not to have small parts that could fall off, as they could be swallowed and cause harm to the baby.

2. Look at the height. For ease of use, most baby cribs on the market are height-adjustable.

But did you know that the height of the crib is very important?

When the bed board is adjusted to the highest point, the minimum vertical distance between the bed surface and the upper surface of the guardrail should be at least 300mm.

When adjusted to the lowest point, the minimum vertical distance between the bed surface and the upper surface of the guardrail is at least 600mm.

This can reduce the chance of the baby rolling over the guardrail. At the same time, be careful not to have any design on the guardrail that could allow the baby to step on it.

3. Check the gaps: The depth of the round holes on the crib should be less than 10mm, or the hole diameter should be less than 5mm. The diameter of the round holes used for assembly should not be greater than 7mm to avoid the baby's fingers getting stuck and causing injuries.

You can use chopsticks or pencils to simulate the inspection.

The gap between two adjacent slats of the bed guardrail should be between 45-65mm to prevent the baby's head, neck or torso from getting stuck.

4. Look at the lock. One side of the crib can be opened. This is a very common design on the market.

However, it should be noted that the side guardrail must have a locking device and can automatically engage when the side panel is lifted to prevent children from tipping over and falling when parents forget to lock it.

5. Check the packaging and carefully check the product packaging information and instruction manual. There should be no missing product information, manufacturer information and implementation standards.

Read the installation instructions and warning instructions carefully to avoid injuries caused by improper use of the crib.

Install carefully to ensure all parts are installed correctly.

Check the crib regularly and perform maintenance in a timely manner if it is damaged, loose, or has missing parts.

6. Mattresses require careful attention. When placing the mattress, please note that the height of the mattress will change the height of the bed guardrail, and there will be a gap between the mattress and the guardrail.

Therefore, it is necessary to choose a mattress of appropriate size to avoid accidental injuries.

7. Do not pile up too many things. Do not place too many soft items such as plush toys on the mattress, and try not to hang rope toys around the bed rails.

Toys should be cleaned up promptly after playing to avoid causing harm to the baby.

Additionally, the accumulation of items may cause your baby to climb out of the crib.

8. Be careful when buying Before buying a baby bed, you can ask the merchant for a product test report. If it cannot be provided, consider the purchase carefully.

Finally, I would like to remind everyone:

An adult bed is not a safe place for a baby.

It is recommended that adults do not sleep with babies and give the baby a crib of his or her own.

This crib should be sturdy and safe, and parents can stay with the baby, making the crib a warm bed to protect the baby.
