The sun is so strong, it is the most "stupid" to only apply sunscreen! Wearing a mask is better than it

Have to say

On the subject of sun protection

Whether adults or children

They are all old fools.

before

One second before going out

At least I'll squeeze some sunscreen and apply it randomly.

Now

Wear a mask wherever you go

Antivirus + sunscreen

One-step solution

You can also save a lot of money on sunscreen

Isn't it this summer?

The most exciting thing?

For the handsome men and women who have this idea

I want to say——

It’s right to wear a mask!

But in front of the "scorching sun"

Do you want to protect your face with just a mask?

You wish!

Indeed, sunscreen and parasols never enter men's closets.

But I still can't help but tell you a fact -

Medical masks ≠ 100% sun protection

Nearly 20% of ultraviolet rays can still harm your face

As for the saying that "masks cannot protect against the sun" that we usually hear,

Strictly speaking, it can only block 80% of ultraviolet rays, which is equivalent to no sun protection.

Because——blocks less than 95% of UV rays = no sun protection

It's not the sun that burns you

But invisible ultraviolet light

Many people believe that only the scorching sun can cause sunburn.

In fact, the main thing that hurts people is the ultraviolet rays (UV) that are "hidden" in the sunlight and invisible to the naked eye.

Even on cloudy days, the UV intensity can reach about 70% of that on sunny days. UV rays can also be reflected, so when you go to the seaside or snow-capped mountains, the reflection of the beach, ice and snow will increase the amount of UV radiation!

Ultraviolet rays are the biggest killer of the skin. Not only can they cause sunburn, but they can also cause tanning, ugliness, and even skin cancer.

The wrinkles, freckles, age spots and even some skin cancers on our faces are caused by excessive UV rays.

What we usually call sun protection refers to protection against ultraviolet rays.

There are two types of ultraviolet rays that can reach the ground: long-wave UVA, accounting for 95%; and medium-wave UVB, accounting for 5%.

✎ UVA: mainly makes you tan

The wavelength is 320 nm-400 nm, with the strongest penetrating power. It can penetrate the surface skin and reach the dermis. It is the main culprit causing skin tanning, aging and wrinkles.

✎ UVB: mainly makes you sunburned

The wavelength is 280 nm-320 nm, which mostly damages the epidermis, causing skin redness, sunburn, and peeling. It can also cause malignant skin melanoma and lens cataracts.

There was once a 7-year-old girl

It was a cloudy day and I got blisters all over my body

Every summer, there are many children who get sunburned.

The Dermatology Department of Shenzhen Chronic Disease Prevention and Control Center once received a little boy of eight or nine years old. He was not only sunburned, but also had a fever. The skin all over his body was painful when touched, and he couldn't even wear clothes.

There was also a 7-year-old girl who went to the beach with her father. She was sunburned in just over 2 hours and had red spots on her face, hands, feet, chest and back. After returning home, she developed many small blisters and felt burning and stinging all over her body.

Seeing the child suffer like this, the father was still puzzled:

"It was a cloudy day, there was no sun at all, how did I get sunburned?"

In fact, the culprit is what was mentioned above - "invisible ultraviolet rays"!

How to protect against the sun?

Applying sunscreen is only the worst option!

When it comes to sun protection, everyone knows sunscreen.

There are two common indexes to consider when choosing sunscreen:

01. SPF: The ability to protect against UVB, in simple terms, it prevents redness from the sun.

SPF ≥ 15 can provide basic protection:

SPF is 15, which can filter out 93% of UVB

SPF 30, can filter out 95% of UVB

SPF 50, can filter out 98% of UVB

02. PA: The ability to protect against UVA, in simple terms, it prevents tanning.

If you don't apply any sunscreen products, it will take twice as long to get a tan, then -

PA+: 2-4 times longer

PA++: 4-8 times longer

PA+++: Requires 8 times more time

However, the higher these values are, the better!

Because the higher the SPF, the more sunscreen is added, and the greater the irritation to the skin.

Therefore, the most important thing is to see where you are going and what you are going to do, and choose the most suitable sunscreen according to the specific situation.

01. Indoor workers: SPF15, PA+

02. Outdoor workers: SPF 20-25, PA++

03. Going on vacation to the beach: SPF>30, PA+++ or above

Applying sunscreen is not a one-time thing. It can be a hassle!

First, apply it 15-30 minutes before going out; after going out, replenish it at least every 2 hours; after sweating and swimming, the sun protection film formed by the sunscreen will be destroyed, so you need to apply it again.

If you are going hiking or to the beach and will be exposed to the sun for a long time, applying sunscreen alone is far from enough.

A guy abroad did a human experiment. He divided his back into 20 squares, applied sunscreen of different brands, and then exposed it to the sun for 3 hours.

The result was hilarious, as the area where the tape was applied was the whitest.

This example tells us that relying solely on sunscreen is really unreliable!

In fact, in scientific sun protection strategies, applying sunscreen has always been the last "worst option".

Not exposed to the sun

The best sun protection

There is an international sun protection ABC principle:

A: Avoid

Just avoid being exposed to the sun, stay indoors, or try to walk in the shade. No protection can provide 100% sun protection, the smartest way is to stay away from it, this is the best way to protect yourself from the sun.

B:Block

It refers to hard sun protection, physical sun protection. For example, holding an umbrella, wearing sunglasses, wearing sun-protective clothing, etc. If you really have no choice but to go out, this is the best way to protect yourself from the sun.

C: Cream, sunscreen

The last one is sunscreen, which is a supplementary option to A and B to assist or enhance the sun protection effect.

Among ABC, C is the younger brother, and A and B are the big brothers.

When going out shopping, it is best to use the [B+C combination], cover up well, and apply sunscreen.

There are requirements for choosing sunscreen products

There are many ways to protect yourself from the sun, such as sun umbrellas, sun hats, sun protection clothing, sunglasses, etc., and choosing these also requires technical skills.

01. Protective clothing

According to the standards issued by my country in 2011, a product can only be called an "anti-UV product" if its UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) is greater than 30 and its UVA transmittance is less than 5%.

Also, try to choose dark and bright colors. Generally speaking, the darker the color of the clothes, the better the sun protection.

02. Sunglasses

Not just any pair of dark sunglasses can protect against UV rays.

Generally speaking, sunglasses marked with these words are reliable:

Marked "UV400"

Marked "UV" and "UV protection"

Labeled "100% UV absorption"

03. Parasol

Mainly look at the UPF value of the parasol. Currently, there are many UPF50+ products on the market, which can produce more than 99% of the shielding effect.

In comparison, wearing protective clothing requires you to wrap yourself tightly and make you sweat profusely, while holding an umbrella is easy and cool. It is truly a "must-have medicine" for home travel, sun protection and aging.
