Fart, it’s just air?

Although many bodily functions are normal, they are still a bit embarrassing. It is a bit awkward to say you need to go to the bathroom in the middle of class, and it is also quite embarrassing to fart while talking to someone or eating. Therefore, many people choose to hold their farts.

The bad news is that, unlike urine, farts come out with almost no warning, which can often scare you, and of course you won't have time to hold it in.

But the good news is that if you really react quickly and hold it in time, it will just be a little uncomfortable and there won't be any serious consequences. It will pass once it's over.

Oh, this is amazing. Where does the held-in fart go?

The answer is: it enters the blood and then exits through the person's nose and mouth.

Although we usually think that farts are very smelly, the main components of normal people's farts are actually harmless. Why is it harmless? Because it is just air, which is the air that people swallow into their stomachs when they eat, talk, and do various activities.

How does air get into the stomach? It turns out that there are two pathways in the human throat, one leading to the stomach and intestines, and the other leading to the lungs. Generally speaking, when we breathe, the pathway to the lungs is open, allowing air to enter and provide oxygen to the body. When we eat, the pathway to the lungs is closed, otherwise if food were to enter, it would block the pathway and cause choking.

However, what we eat is not just food, we always swallow some gas. These gases cannot go to the lungs, but only to the intestines.

The intestines are not very good at absorbing gases, so the air becomes the main component of farts. The bacteria in the intestines also produce some gases, and the odor of farts comes from these newly produced gases, such as hydrogen sulfide.

Sulfur is a component of protein and an essential element for the human body. People must eat it. Beans, broccoli, pork and cheese are some common foods that are high in sulfur. However, if you eat too much, you can't absorb all the sulfur, right? It can only be given to the intestinal bacteria. When the intestinal bacteria get a lot of sulfur, they will turn it into hydrogen sulfide.

So, many people say that eating beans will make you fart, which actually makes sense. If you don't eat beans all at once, but eat them frequently, the sulfur-loving intestinal bacteria will flourish, and the farts will be more obvious.

Holding back a fart can make you feel a bit bloated. The gas will accumulate in the intestines and slowly be absorbed into the blood over time. When the blood circulates to the lungs, the gas is released and exhaled from the mouth and nose, completing the cycle and returning to the air.
