Orange high temperature warning issued! How to prevent heat stroke scientifically?

At 18:00 on the 22nd, the Central Meteorological Observatory upgraded and issued the first orange high temperature warning this year. Meteorological monitoring showed that from 8:00 to 16:00 on the 22nd, the temperature in Beijing, Tianjin, central Hebei, northern Shandong and other places rose rapidly, with the highest temperature rising to above 40°C. A total of 17 national meteorological observation stations in the above four provinces recorded the highest temperature breaking the historical extreme.

At 06:00 on June 23, the Central Meteorological Observatory continued to issue an orange high temperature warning:

It is predicted that during the day on June 23, high temperatures above 35°C will continue to occur in North China, Huanghuai and other places. Among them, the highest temperatures in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shandong, northern and eastern Henan will be 37~39°C, and the highest temperatures in parts of Beijing, Tianjin, central and southern Hebei, northern Shandong and other places may reach around 40°C. In addition, there will also be high temperature weather of 35~38°C in Turpan and the southern Xinjiang Basin in Xinjiang, western and north-central Inner Mongolia, and the highest temperature in Turpan may reach around 40°C.

In the hot summer, under the scorching sun, heat stroke is one of the most common diseases. Some people feel dizzy and have headaches, some feel nauseous and vomit, and some feel weak and unbearable... What exactly is heat stroke? Let's learn about the health knowledge related to heat stroke.

Heat stroke is a disease that occurs in hot weather, high humidity, and windless environments due to dysfunction of the body's temperature regulation center, sweat gland failure, and excessive loss of water and electrolytes. Be careful of heat stroke if you have the following:

1. Premonitions of heat stroke: When exposed to high temperature, symptoms such as sweating, weakness in the limbs, dizziness, tinnitus, thirst, headache, inattention, and uncoordinated movements may occur with or without increased body temperature.

2. Mild heatstroke: The body temperature rises above 38 degrees Celsius, and symptoms such as burning skin, flushed face or dehydration (cold and damp limbs, pale face, increased heart rate, etc.) appear.

3. Severe heat stroke

Severe heatstroke is divided into three types according to different clinical manifestations: heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Heat stroke is the most dangerous, with multiple organ damage and can be life-threatening in severe cases. The prominent features of heat stroke are no sweating, high fever and confusion.

How to prevent heat stroke? Here is a guide to preventing heat stroke!

The most important thing is that if you or someone else suffers from heatstroke, first call the "120" emergency number, and then provide on-site first aid to the best of your ability.

1. Move

Stop activities, quickly leave the high temperature and high humidity environment, move the patient to a ventilated and cool place, and remove all clothing of the patient as soon as possible.

If conditions permit, the patient can be transferred to an air-conditioned room. It is recommended that the room temperature be adjusted to 16~20℃. Let the patient lie down with the lower limbs raised 15~30 cm.

2. Quantity

Take body temperature quickly, preferably core temperature, usually using a rectal temperature to reflect core temperature.

If the core temperature cannot be measured on site, the surface temperature (axillary or ear temperature) can also be measured for reference. If the axillary or ear temperature is not high, heat stroke cannot be ruled out, and the body temperature should be measured every 10 minutes or continuously monitored.

3. Wipe

Use cold water or diluted alcohol to wipe the patient's body and continue fanning. You can also use a towel soaked in cold water or an ice bag or ice cubes and place them on the patient's head, neck, armpits, groin, or other large arteries to help the patient dissipate heat.

4. Supplement

Rapid rehydration. If the person suffering from heat stroke is conscious and not nauseous or vomiting, give him/her light salt water or sports drinks.

If conditions permit, rapid intravenous infusion can be given on site, with physiological saline or Ringer's solution being the first choice, preferably at 4°C, which has both a cooling effect and can appropriately expand the volume. However, the infusion speed should be slow at the beginning to avoid adverse reactions such as arrhythmia.

How to prevent heat stroke?

1. Reduce going out

The elderly, pregnant women, people with chronic diseases, especially those with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, should try to reduce going out during the hot season.

If you must go out, try to go out in the early morning and evening to reduce the length of time you stay. If you go out at noon, you can rest for a few minutes in cool indoor places such as banks and shopping malls before continuing your outdoor activities.

2. Shade from the sun

Use a parasol, wear a sun hat and sunglasses, apply sunscreen, and reduce the time spent outdoors in direct sunlight.

3. Drink water promptly

When going out in summer, carry sports drinks or light salt water with you and replenish them in time. You can also drink some refreshing drinks such as hawthorn soup, iced watermelon dew, mung bean and sour plum soup, etc.

4. Pay attention to diet and hygiene

Summer diet should be light, easy to digest, high in vitamins, high in protein, and low in fat. Be careful not to eat too much greasy food. Eat more fresh vegetables and fruits, and avoid excessive drinking or getting drunk.

5. Have regular health check-ups

People with chronic diseases, those recovering from serious illness, and those who are weak should enhance their awareness of protection and should not engage in high-temperature work.
