A flood above the warning level has occurred in the Pearl River Basin. Please keep these flood prevention tips in mind!

Affected by the continuous heavy rainfall since April 16, a total of 44 rivers in the Pearl River Basin have experienced floods exceeding the warning level, with the range of 0.01-7.04 meters. Among them, the Beijiang River experienced the second flood of 2024. According to the forecast of the meteorological and hydrological departments, the heavy rainfall process in the central and eastern parts of the basin will continue, the water level of the Beijiang River will continue to rise and may develop into a major flood. The risk of floods in small and medium rivers and mountain torrents and geological disasters is extremely high, and the flood control situation in the basin is severe and complicated.

In accordance with the relevant provisions of the "Pearl River Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters Flood Control and Drought Relief Emergency Plan", the Pearl River Flood Control Headquarters decided to upgrade the flood control level III emergency response to level II at 8:00 on April 21, and the Pearl River Commission simultaneously upgraded the flood defense level III emergency response to level II.

According to the relevant person in charge of the Pearl River Commission, the current flood prevention situation in the basin is not optimistic. The Pearl River Commission will intensify rainfall monitoring and forecasting, hold rolling consultations and assessments, strengthen flood scheduling and rehearsals, assess prevention risks river by river and region by region, formulate targeted prevention plans, and urge and guide localities to do a good job in flood prevention in small and medium-sized rivers and mountain torrents, and ensure the safe passage of small and medium-sized reservoirs, dangerous reservoirs, and projects under construction through the flood season. It will remind localities to promptly transfer people from threatened areas and do its utmost to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.

At present, the Pearl River Flood Control Headquarters has issued notices to Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian and other provinces, guiding and urging relevant units to further tighten flood control responsibilities, strengthen monitoring, forecasting and early warning, scientifically dispatch and utilize various water projects, give full play to the role of reservoirs in flood control, peak shaving and peak shifting, make preparations for the use of flood storage and detention areas in advance, organize the transfer and evacuation of personnel in dangerous areas in advance, and make every effort to ensure the safety of people's lives and property and the stability of the overall social situation.
