Two safety concepts of "country" and "people" in stampede incidents

Two safety concepts of "country" and "people" in stampede incidents

High-density crowds always bring chaos, and in chaos there are often hidden disasters. This is the root cause of the endless stampede incidents, especially in areas with high population density, areas with uneven development, including countries with unequal individual development, which should be paid special attention to.

Similar incidents occur almost every year during the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, and in 1990, as many as 1,426 people died. The stampede on the Bund in Shanghai has caused 36 deaths and 41 injuries. While we are saddened, we can't help but ask, is there really no way to solve the cycle of accidents?

There is always a solution. Technological development has given us more tools to reduce accidents and solve specific problems. However, in this land, too often, tools and technologies are just for show, and the key issue lies in the substance.

In fact, many factors that lead to stampedes are due to people's underestimation of danger. For example, two men sprayed pungent odors on the Guangzhou subway, causing passengers to panic and stampede. The two men may not understand the dangers that such behavior may bring in a high-density crowd area.

For example, the stampede in Shanghai was said to be caused by the sudden stop of the crowd. As for those who suddenly stopped in the crowd, did they know that in such an occasion, stopping for no reason would cause a crowd blockage, and what harm a crowd blockage would bring?

Even once when I was riding on Beijing Subway Line 1, it was rush hour and the transfer passage was packed with people, but at this moment, someone actually jokingly shouted "There is a bomb."

I still break out in a cold sweat when I think about this incident. If this ignorant joke is regarded as a "quality" issue, it may be a bit flawed. After all, people with so-called "quality" problems will not endanger themselves. But the person who shouted "There is a bomb" was in the crowd and made this inappropriate behavior. He may not know that this potential harm will also endanger himself.

Therefore, to put it bluntly, in areas where stampedes frequently occur, the primary problem is that the entire "social group" in the area may have some problems with its understanding of "safety concepts" that cannot be ignored.

The problem of "group" cognition is not individual education, not pyramid education, nor differentiated education, but the most critical macro-environment education, which involves the construction of the entire environment and soil.

There is no doubt that the establishment of the values of the main population comes from the macro environment and soil, and is often led by the state. In this regard, our government is undoubtedly not doing well enough.

At this stage, the government’s security stance is “Don’t cause me trouble if something goes wrong”, rather than “Don’t get into trouble with you”. Its stance is not based on individual safety, but on avoiding political problems caused by mass incidents. Therefore, it often plays the role of a firefighter, rather than a gardener.

Therefore, I do not agree that after the stampede, the government not only did not focus on comforting the families of the injured and dead, but was eager to arrest the two people who distributed the vouchers. Regardless of whether these two people are the root cause of the incident, issuing arrest warrants to arrest the two people without direct evidence not only gives people the feeling of appeasing public opinion, but also makes people feel that the government is busy calming the incident instead of solving it.

This is undoubtedly a typical approach of a firefighter. His starting point is not based on individual feelings, but on how to turn the incident into politically correct or public opinion correct.

Why do Chinese people not look at the traffic lights when crossing zebra crossings, but look at how many people can gather to stop the moving vehicles? As the saying goes, there is strength in numbers and the law does not punish the majority. Why do Europeans and Americans have good traffic rules in their own countries, but when they come to our country, they just follow the local customs.

Why is it that when it comes to the Olympics, everything becomes orderly again under the guidance of the national will from top to bottom?

Our land is used to mining, but never to "maintaining". We are used to political correctness, but never to human correctness, and we are used to group correctness, but not to individual correctness. It's not that the moon is rounder abroad, but that our moon has never been seen. Therefore, when we always struggle with what specific methods to use for security and prevention, in the end, people are still the same people, and accidents are still the same accidents.

In crowded areas, the most common sight is police cars clearing the way, shouting "Be careful" all the way. This is of course correct, and it shows that the relevant authorities are still paying attention.

But in our textbooks, apart from telling children to "stop at red lights and go at green lights", and apart from giving you a fill-in-the-blank question like "() lights () go" in exams, do our teachers, parents, and leaders also stop at red lights? Do they also know to tell our children before a stampede that they cannot scatter coupons on rooftops, release irritating gases in the subway, or shout "there is a bomb" in transfer passages, and set an example themselves?

Of course, we don’t dare to hope for it yet, and it will take time. We just sincerely hope that we can start from this piece of land, bury the precious seed of “safety” deep in the soil, and then wait patiently for a big forest and big ecology different from the current one to grow. By then, there should be no more smog in the sky.
