When Apple Watch is pre-sold, let's talk about Xiaomi bracelet

At a time when Apple Watch is being pre-ordered all over the world, the Xiaomi Mi Band, which only costs 79 yuan, quietly announced its sales volume - as of April 12, 2015, the shipment volume of Xiaomi Mi Band exceeded 4 million units.

When smart wrist devices become a hot topic again, will the Xiaomi Mi Band, as the Mi product with the highest export sales, follow the trend?

Will there be a Xiaomi Watch?

When Apple Watch was released and we talked about Xiaomi Mi Band, the first question most people might have was “Will there be a Xiaomi Mi Watch in the future?”

From the current perspective, the probability of Xiaomi Watch appearing is very small.

Long before the birth of the Xiaomi wristband, Huami, the company responsible for its development, had already discussed this issue. They defined the Xiaomi wristband as a human ID. What is an ID? An ID card, which is a device that accompanies the user 24 hours a day. From this perspective, mobile phones and watches cannot accompany the user anytime, anywhere.

According to Huang Wang, founder of Huami, "After the launch of the Xiaomi Mi Band, 10% of users said they needed a screen to check the time. Well, our team had a heated discussion and even approached multiple LED/LCD suppliers to customize the screen. Of course, none of this happened. In the end, the Xiaomi Mi Band got rid of the screen. I thought that this product should not be unsightly, unpower-hungry, and costly because of the needs of 10% of users."

Obviously, Huami's decision is right. Imagine if the Xiaomi bracelet becomes the "Xiaomi Watch", the price will be several times or even dozens of times higher than the current bracelet. Secondly, the lack of power saving will at least reduce the user stickiness of wearable devices by half. In addition, if Sharp memory LCD or E-ink is used, not all users can accept the black and white screen. Even Apple Watch cannot get rid of the criticism of power consumption.

Functional positioning, usage scenarios, and user audiences mean that the Xiaomi wristband is currently just a wristband. However, Xiaomi engineer Sun Peng said, "Of course, if Huami wants to move up, we also hope that it can create a new brand instead of using the Xiaomi brand. Because Xiaomi is to give everyone a genuine product at a good price. If a product exceeds this average selling price, our users will be confused."

Huang Wang also said that it is not ruled out that Huami will launch its own brand in the future. In other words, Huami is very likely to launch smart watches in the future, but they will not become Mi products for the time being.

On the other hand, there is still a lot of room for development in the functions of Xiaomi bracelet. How to make the identity ID positioning play a full role will become an important direction for the future development of Xiaomi bracelet.

Things about Xiaomi wristband and Xiaomi TV

At present, the most commonly used functions of Xiaomi wristbands for users are still basic functions such as step counting, sleep monitoring, phone unlocking, and call reminders. As Xiaomi's smart hardware products become more abundant, Xiaomi wristbands, as a user identity identifier, have not yet been fully integrated into all Xiaomi products.

In addition to mobile phones, it is predicted that the product that will be closely connected with the Xiaomi bracelet in the future will be the Xiaomi TV.

Huang Wangxiang said, "For TV, we have also had some discussions on Weibo about how our bracelets and TVs can interact with each other. Let me reveal one piece of information: we now have a TV version of the Xiaomi Sports app, which can display your sleep data and exercise data on a larger screen. We are indeed exploring what more interesting and direct interactions can occur between the bracelet and the TV."

It is conceivable that "in the future, when you wake up and walk into the living room, you want to watch a news broadcast or morning report, but when you approach the TV, your sleep status last night will be shown on the TV. It tracks your health status by embedding the Xiaomi bracelet app in the TV.

What can you even see? See if your child secretly watched TV last night after you went to bed. Just put a small bracelet on your child, and the TV can communicate with each other. In addition, when parents are watching some bloody and violent scenes, as long as the child is in the living room, the TV can sense it and mosaics will be put on when bloody and violent scenes appear. "

From Huang Wang's description above, we can see that there are many aspects that can be realized between Xiaomi Mi Band and Xiaomi Mi TV. Recently, Skyworth Coocaa launched a new TV, which divides the remote control into "elderly, children, and young people". In fact, it also hopes to realize the personalization of TV through identity recognition.

It is worth noting that Xiaomi Mi Band may also play a great role in TV games in the future. According to Yao Bin, founder of the somatosensory game developer Sports Plus, "watches, bracelets and other wearable devices are being connected to the game platform of Sports Plus." Using the bracelet as a gaming peripheral will greatly enhance the operating experience of TV games and become a feasible solution.

So, will the 79 yuan Xiaomi bracelet change?

The answer is yes, Xiaomi bracelet will definitely launch the second and third generations.

Perhaps we can also describe it simply like this: the Xiaomi bracelet will not become like the Apple Watch to replace your mobile phone or watch, but it will replace various remote controls in your home in the future and "connect humans to the Internet world seamlessly" through wearable devices.
