Cook's attack is Apple's retreat

Cook's attack is Apple's retreat

WWDC 2015 is Apple's annual college entrance examination. Jobs was once the top scorer in the college entrance examination, and Cook obviously hoped to reach the same height, but it always went against his wishes. This year's WWDC can be described as Apple's retreat. In summary, there is a lack of hardware innovation, software upgrades, some highlights, but no killer applications.

iOS9's benefit to 4S is negligible

Overall, did iOS9, which was highly anticipated before the meeting, meet your expectations?

First of all, the new Siri can use the change of the scene to suggest the activities of the device. If you add an event to the calendar application, Siri will remind you when you should leave. This is more like a reminder function. There is a certain upgrade in intelligence, but similar applications are not uncommon in reality.

In addition, the smart design added by iOS9, I prefer to call it "anthropomorphic" design. For example, when you pick up your iPhone in the morning, it will automatically recommend apps that need to be opened based on your daily usage habits. The historical usage records such as browser searches and email sending and receiving will be recorded by the phone and generate reminders. More intelligence is reflected in the reminders and auxiliary links. This anthropomorphic design is more like a babysitter.

Perhaps split-screen multitasking is a relatively innovative design. However, compared to the small screens of iPhone and iPad, I don’t know what application should be based on the best application scenario?

The biggest benefit may be the support for iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Apple announced that iPhone 4S and iPad 2 and above can be upgraded to iOS 9. However, if we think about it carefully, most of the early 4S were 8G and 16G. The space required for upgrading to iOS 8 was already stretched, not to mention the 1.3G size of iOS 9? I think the so-called sincerity can be ignored.

Watch OS 2: Cook's legend is still far away

I have always been pessimistic about Apple Watch. I wrote in "The End of an Era After Apple Watch", "Why are Apple fans so enthusiastic about iPhone or iPad? Because they are unique products created by that perfect man, Steve Jobs. But Apple Watch is obviously neither perfect nor unique. At least, it will no longer amaze us."

Of course, we have to say that Cook wants to eliminate Jobs' influence on Apple. The best opportunity lies in Apple Watch. Only this product can be called Cook's legend in the future. However, at present, this may have to wait a little longer.

The new version of WatchOS2 will bring more native applications to Apple Watch. This includes more new watch faces, new features and interesting usages. Overall, like the release of iOS 9, there is a lack of killer apps. Most of the features are icing on the cake. If Jobs had not created a strong bond among Apple users, it would be hard to say that these upgrades are a successful 2.0. Perhaps it would be more appropriate to call it watch OS 1S.

First, regarding desktop photos, Apple has opened up a little bit of permissions, allowing users to put their own photos on the watch face, or even time-lapse photography works as watch faces. This is seen as Apple's greatest sincerity in opening up (Android Wear platform allows users to design watch faces independently), but on a small screen, it actually has no practical significance.

Second, the charging alarm clock. WatchOS2 allows it to display the time while charging, and also adds an alarm clock function. Is this going to replace the old alarm clock at the bedside? It's hard to understand. Has Apple Watch replaced the iPhone? Doesn't your phone have an alarm clock? What's more, MOTO360 could have done this a long time ago.

Third, it can connect to WIFI directly. Perhaps, until today, many users who have not purchased Apple Watch know that it cannot connect to WIFI and needs to rely on iPhone. Well, this is a very useful upgrade, but we should pay attention to whether the small battery of Apple Watch can continue to be powerful in terms of battery life.

Fourth, smart home? Will it squeeze the future space of mobile phones? Actually, what I don’t quite understand is that as a remote control, does a watch look more like a remote control than a mobile phone? I think in this regard, iPhone has a better chance.

Fifth, native watch apps. This may be an opening with a future. In Watch OS 1.0, which is now, it must rely on the iPhone to exist. The logic of all apps is installed on the iPhone, and the part that supports it will appear on the watch. Since the 2.0 system, developers can develop apps for Apple Watch alone, and it is no longer an accessory to the iPhone. The independent ecology of Watch has long-term development significance. Otherwise, I can only understand it as continuing to squeeze the space of iPhone.
