Chinese Academy of Sciences: Research shows that Google AI's IQ is twice that of Apple's Siri but lower than that of a 6-year-old child

Three Chinese researchers recently published a paper that compared several artificial intelligence systems, saying that Google's artificial intelligence technology is significantly more intelligent than Apple's Siri.

The authors of the paper include Shi Yong, executive deputy director of the Virtual Economy and Data Science Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The paper points out that in 2016, the IQ of Google's artificial intelligence was 47.28, ahead of Baidu's artificial intelligence of 32.92 and Microsoft Bing's artificial intelligence of 31.98. Apple's Siri's IQ is only 23.94.

However, all of these systems have an IQ lower than that of a 6-year-old child (55.5) and an even greater gap than that of an 18-year-old adult (97).

However, Google and Microsoft's systems are getting smarter. In 2014, Google's AI had an IQ of only 26.5, while Microsoft's AI had an IQ of 13.5. At the time, researchers didn't pay attention to Baidu and Siri.

Apple, Google and Microsoft are all investing in artificial intelligence research. This will improve the state of the art in areas such as speech recognition and image recognition. These technologies can be monetized in the future through advertising and other means.

However, it is not easy to compare the AI systems of these companies, or the difference in IQ between AI and humans. So the researchers tried to find a way to compare them. In this study, the researchers focused on the system's ability to "master knowledge, learn, apply and create."

The paper published on Sunday also discusses AlphaGo, which the researchers did not assign an IQ score to, but noted is lower than humans.
