Tesla launches survey in Germany to prove users fully understand Autopilot

Recently, according to the electrek website, after adjusting its pricing system to comply with Germany's preferential policies for electric vehicles, Tesla responded to the German Ministry of Transport's criticism of its use of the term "Autopilot" to describe its automatic assisted driving system.

Previously, the German Ministry of Transport said that Tesla's naming of the automatic assisted driving system as "Autopilot" was potentially dangerous and would make drivers think they did not need to control the car themselves. Recently, Tesla took the initiative to ask a third-party agency to conduct a survey of German car owners to determine whether they could correctly understand Autopilot. At the same time, Tesla also sent a letter to all Tesla owners in Germany, explaining how to use Autopilot and stating in the letter that the term Autopilot only comes from airplanes, "You must hold the steering wheel and keep your eyes on the road ahead."

The picture below is a picture of German Transport Minister Doblind, showing his status when using Audi's self-developed driver assistance system. He has signed and read Tesla's notification letter.

Tesla said the purpose of this survey is to prove that Tesla owners understand the meaning of Autopilot and know how to use it. The following are the questions in the full questionnaire:

The third-party agency Puls released the final results based on statistical data. The survey showed that the vast majority of Tesla users in Germany understand the meaning and function of Autopilot, and 98% of Tesla users know that they must always keep control of the car.

In fact, when Tesla and the FAA talk about the Autopilot system, they are describing a system that can reduce some of the operator's control, reduce the overall workload, and allow the operator to be more vigilant about other things. The FAA's regulations for autopilot read: "Although the autopilot frees the pilot from manual flight control, the pilot must remain vigilant to the system at all times to ensure that the system performs its intended functions and ensures that the aircraft navigates within the appropriate altitude, airspeed and airspace restrictions."
