Honda's NeuV electric concept car is equipped with an "emotion engine"

Recently, Honda showed the first picture of a new concept car NeuV, and announced that the car will be officially unveiled at CES in January 2017. According to Honda's description of the car, it will be an "autonomous electric car for commuting", which is different from a conventional car assembled from a bunch of cold machinery. The car will also be equipped with an artificial intelligence called "emotion engine".

Working with a company called Cocoro SB, Honda has given NeuV what it calls an “emotion engine.” In a July press release announcing the partnership, the two companies described the technology as “allowing the car to respond to its owner’s conversations and emotions, with the ultimate goal of forming a deeper emotional bond between the owner and the vehicle.”

Making cars have their own emotions is still a relatively new thing at the moment. After all, the cars we see in daily life are just a set of mechanical devices without emotions. Cars with artificial intelligence emotions may indeed establish a closer emotional bond with their owners as Honda hopes, but it also raises some concerns. If cars really start to become "emotional" in the future, whether it will pose a threat to the safety of passengers is also an issue that cannot be ignored.
