FCA recalls 1.33 million vehicles worldwide due to potential airbag and generator problems

According to foreign media reports, on July 14th local time, Fiat Chrysler (FCA) is recalling 1.33 million vehicles worldwide due to hidden dangers in airbags and generators.

Fiat Chrysler said that the approximately 770,000 SUVs being recalled may cause the driver's side airbag to accidentally deploy due to wiring problems. The fault caused five minor injuries and no car accidents. Fiat Chrysler also said that the short-circuited wiring mainly exists at the joint between the wiring and the steering wheel, which may not only cause the airbag to accidentally deploy, but also cause the windshield wipers to malfunction or work unexpectedly.

The recall involves 538,000 Dodge Journeys sold in North America from 2011 to 2015, and 233,000 Fiat Freemonts sold in other markets from 2011 to 2015. Dealers will inspect and replace the wiring as needed, and equip it with additional protective packaging.

Fiat Chrysler is also recalling 565,000 vehicles due to a fire hazard in the alternator. The hazard mainly comes from temperature factors and wear of components, which can cause the diodes in the generator set to malfunction, causing the car to have an unusual smell or spontaneous combustion, which can affect the entire vehicle's braking system and cause the car to stall. Fiat Chrysler said that two accidents may have been related to this malfunction, but no one was injured.

The recall covers Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger and Dodge Durango SUVs from 2011 to 2014 and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs from 2012 to 2014.

As early as October last year, due to the same generator failure, Fiat Chrysler recalled approximately 86,000 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 produced from 2007 to 2013, Fiat Chassis Cab 3500, 4500 and 5500 produced from 2007 to 2013, and Dodge Charger Pursuit sedans produced from 2011 to 2014.
