Toyota invests 19 billion to establish a new company and will let driverless cars drive on the highway in two years

Tesla and Internet companies such as Google are not the only ones interested in the seemingly fantastic driverless technology. Traditional car manufacturers are also increasing their investment in this new field.

(Official Account:) noticed that recently, Toyota, the world's largest automobile company and a famous Japanese car company, announced that it will invest US$2.8 billion, or approximately RMB 19 billion, to establish a new company in Tokyo, Japan, focusing on the research and development of autonomous driving car software.

It is understood that the new company, named Toyota Research Institute-Advanced Development, will be jointly funded by Toyota Motor Corporation and two suppliers, Aisin Seiki and Denso Corporation. It will include the hiring of software engineers who have no work experience in traditional car companies. The total number of employees is expected to exceed 1,000 in the future.

In addition, Toyota spokesman Jean-Yves Jault also revealed that the company's internal schedule has already planned to produce and sell new cars that can achieve automatic driving on highways before 2020.
