Discussions about new energy vehicles have never faded from the public eye. Recently, with the release of relevant market outlook data, the topic of new energy vehicles has become a hot topic again. In addition, the news that Tesla Motors will set up a factory in Shanghai earlier has added fuel to the attention of this round of new energy vehicles. First, the International Energy Agency (IEA) predicted in its latest report at the end of May that the number of electric vehicles in the world hit a record high in 2017, reaching 3.1 million, a year-on-year increase of 57%. The IEA also predicts that by 2030, global electric vehicle sales will further increase to 21.5 million, which means that the average annual sales growth rate will be as high as 24%. In terms of market share, by 2030, 30% of all new cars sold in the world will be electric vehicles. In terms of countries, China will be the world's largest electric vehicle market, accounting for 40% of the global market last year, followed by the United States. Subsequently, the Passenger Car Market Information Joint Committee released a series of reports in early June, analyzing the sales of my country's narrow passenger car market. It pointed out that the cumulative retail sales of new energy passenger cars from January to May this year reached 275,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 147.0%. New energy has become the core driving force for the growth of the auto market. In contrast, the retail sales of traditional fuel vehicles increased by only 0.5% in May. On June 8, Tang Wenhong, Director of the Foreign Investment Department of the Ministry of Commerce, said at the State Council's regular policy briefing: "We very much welcome Tesla's smooth construction of a factory in China. This is a positive signal." Combined with Tesla's previous disclosure at its global shareholders' meeting that it would build its first factory outside the United States in Shanghai, the news of Tesla's Shanghai factory construction has been confirmed. This not only reflects the Chinese government's welcoming attitude, but also highlights Tesla's long-term decision to identify the prospects of China's new energy vehicle market. The author believes that the root causes of the above series of events surrounding new energy vehicles can be traced back to my country's relevant support and encouragement policies for new energy vehicles, as well as the growing demand for new energy vehicles in the Chinese market. With the support of "policy + market", it is no wonder that the prospects of my country's new energy vehicle market have been unanimously recognized and chosen by international organizations and large automakers. In my opinion, policy encouragement and market recognition are the premise and basic conditions for the bright development prospects of my country's new energy vehicle market. However, to ensure the long-term sustainability of the market prospects and to truly increase the scale of production and sales, it still needs to be tested by the market, that is, consumers truly recognize new energy vehicle products. Among them, a large number of Chinese automakers who are ambitious to overtake others must persist in practicing their internal skills. Otherwise, with the entry of large international new energy vehicle manufacturers such as Tesla, it is bound to set off a reshuffle of the passenger car market. If domestic new energy vehicle companies are still satisfied with the "tricks" of defrauding subsidy policies, they will hardly have a place in the reshuffled passenger car market. It is undeniable that due to the objective environmental pressure and the society's high enthusiasm for the development of the new energy vehicle industry, my country's new energy vehicle promotion path is moderately advanced, that is, government official vehicles, public transportation and civilian use are working together to promote the rapid development of the new energy vehicle market. The fact requires the formation of long-term driving force for the industry's independent development as soon as possible, among which continuous technological advancement is essential for enhancing its core competitiveness. Achieving technological progress and improving competitiveness are the inevitable choices to overcome the bottleneck of the development of the new energy vehicle industry. For example, it is necessary to improve and break through core technologies to solve a series of obstacles and problems such as the high maintenance and repair costs of new energy vehicles, battery stability and durability, as well as the construction of driving range and charging facilities. After all, the new energy vehicle market still has many problems to solve in the long-term sustainable development. These problems need to be addressed and overcome through continuous technological innovation in order to achieve a series of ambitious goals and fulfill the dual mission of new energy vehicle development that takes into account both industrial progress and ecological protection.
