Tesla was accused of fake environmental protection: the emissions from car charging were alarming, and the company responded by saying that the sampling was improper

Tesla, the electric car manufacturer, has always used environmental protection as a selling point for its products. However, a British study found that although Tesla releases less carbon dioxide when driving, the emissions generated by producing and charging electric cars are very alarming. The annual emissions of the Model S are almost the same as those of ordinary gasoline cars, suggesting that Tesla is not as environmentally friendly as imagined.

It is reported that the research was conducted by Engaged Tracking, a British environmental standards testing organization. Model S was used as the main sample to calculate its average annual carbon dioxide emissions during production and charging, and compared it with the average annual emissions data of British cars. It was found that the average annual carbon dioxide emissions of both were the same, at 1.5 tons.

The study also compared the Model S with the BMW i3 electric car and found that the latter had emissions of only 1.3 tons, which is 15% less than the Model S.

In response, Tesla said that the annual average emissions data includes many small cars, which have different specifications from the Model S and should not be compared together. It also pointed out that based on the specifications of the BMW i3, the Model 3 is the appropriate research sample, and questioned Engaged Tracking's improper sampling and screening of data.

Tesla stressed that if the analysis is fair, it should be concluded that electric vehicles emit less carbon dioxide per mile than fuel vehicles.
