Old users are not abandoned yet? Apple urgently releases iOS14.8.1 official version to fix 14 vulnerabilities

As we all know, Apple has gone against its norm this year and allowed old users to stay on iOS 14 without having to upgrade to iOS 15. This is why the installation rate of iOS 15 within two weeks of its release is lower than that of iOS 14 in the same period.

In any case, this is a good thing. After all, iOS diehards are a very large group, and they finally don’t have to waste time installing description files that block updates.

We originally thought that iOS14.8 should be the last official version of iOS14. But unexpectedly, even though the official version of iOS15 has been released for more than a month, Apple still has not abandoned old iOS14 users.

On October 27, Apple urgently pushed the official version of iOS14.8.1 to iOS14 users. The main purpose of this update is to maintain system security.

Here comes the point. The models covered by iOS15 and iOS14 are basically the same. And the official version of iOS14.8.1 is open for verification. Does this mean that iOS15 users can downgrade to the official version of iOS14.8.1? Unfortunately, the answer is no.

From the system firmware list of Aisee, we can see that iOS14.8.1 does not have an open system firmware. Currently, only the official versions of iOS15.1 and iOS15.0.2 can be flashed. It seems that although Apple has not given up on old iOS14 users, it does not want iOS15 users to downgrade. At present, the official version of iOS14.8.1 can only be upgraded on mobile phones through OTA.

Secondly, the security update of the official version of iOS14.8.1 mainly fixed 14 vulnerabilities in total, mainly involving multiple vulnerabilities in Sidecar and WebKit.

At the same time, this update fixes a "jailbreak vulnerability" coded as CVE-2021-30883. According to Pattern-f's actual test, on iOS15.0.1, jailbreaking can be successfully achieved through this vulnerability-this is why Apple is in a hurry to launch a security patch.

In addition to security patches, iOS14.8.1 does not bring any "functional" updates. If you don't want to jailbreak in the future and want your phone to be safer, then I recommend that you update iOS14.8.1.

To be honest, this method of not pushing new features but only pushing security patches has greatly strengthened the security of the iOS system and is very worthy of promotion. Nowadays, the functions of smartphone systems have become more complete, and consumers do not have more demands. The most important thing is to make it comfortable to use.

Finally, I really hope that iOS14.8.1 can open a downgrade channel. Because since upgrading to iOS15, I found that most of the new features are basically useless to me, and will bring more bugs.

Even in the latest official version of iOS15.1, I encountered a bug in which third-party apps frequently required me to log in again. I had to re-authorize every time I clicked on it, and I had no idea when it would be fixed.
