China's new energy vehicles will grow by 40% in the next five years, and it is urgent to establish an independent chip industry

In recent years, with the increase in demand and technological progress, China's new energy vehicle industry has achieved rapid development. According to statistics from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), from January to May this year, domestic new car sales reached 10.875 million units, of which 950,000 were new energy vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 224.2%.

On June 18, Fu Bingfeng, executive vice president of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, said at the China Automobile Forum that in the next five years, the average annual growth rate of China's new energy vehicle sales is expected to reach 40%.

But at the same time, the development of the new energy vehicle industry also has hidden dangers. Affected by the epidemic that began last year, global semiconductor production capacity has been greatly reduced, and many industries have experienced a shortage of chips, and some automobile factories have even stopped production. In addition, the experience of Huawei and other high-tech companies being suppressed by the United States has also made people realize the importance of independent high-tech companies.

In this regard, Miao Wei, former Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said at the China Automotive Forum that China should establish a unified, open-source, and open automotive operating system to form an industrial ecosystem, and should also plan independent and controllable chips and operating systems as soon as possible: "my country's automotive industry needs to have its own unified operating system; after the chip shortage crisis, my country's automotive industry needs to establish an independent and controllable automotive-grade chip industry system."

Miao Wei also believes that China needs to develop its own world-class advanced automotive semiconductors and integrated circuit companies, and at the same time promote the coordinated development of vehicles, roads, networks and clouds based on 5G technology.
