Foxconn's parent company, Hon Hai Group, recently released its second quarter financial report. The data showed that the company's net profit for the quarter was NT$29.78 billion and its operating profit was NT$32.48 billion, both of which exceeded market expectations, allowing Foxconn to have more funds to develop other businesses. At the same time, Liu Yangwei, chairman of Hon Hai Group, announced that starting from 2023, electric vehicles will be mass-produced in the United States and Thailand, providing customers with vertically integrated services in the field of electric vehicles, from design, parts manufacturing to regional cooperation, to meet the needs of different car manufacturers. In fact, Foxconn revealed the news of entering the electric vehicle market at the end of 2020 and unveiled the MIH electric modular platform. The platform provides cooperation models such as vehicle OEM, chassis supply, and platform technology sales, and is applicable to all brands and models. In addition, in August this year, Foxconn also reached a cooperation with Macronix Electronics, a chip manufacturer in Taiwan Province of China, and acquired the latter's six-inch wafer factory. It is reported that Foxconn will also use this to develop third-generation semiconductors, especially SIC power components used in electric vehicles. Previously, Foxconn was mainly engaged in consumer electronics OEM business, but the profit of these products was not high. Now, Foxconn's preparation for mass production of electric vehicles is also seen as a signal that the company will transform. Industry insiders revealed that Foxconn will adjust its business model to focus on high-tech products in the future. In addition to electric vehicles, robots and digital health are also emerging industries that it plans to focus on developing.
