Volkswagen Group (China) and Hainan Province deepen cooperation to promote local industrial development

[December 8, 2023, Haikou/Beijing] During the 2023 World New Energy Vehicle Congress, Volkswagen Group (China) and the People's Government of Hainan Province signed a framework agreement to consolidate and expand the cooperation between the two sides in the automotive industry and mobile travel. The exchanges and cooperation between Volkswagen Group and Hainan Province began in 2019. This signing further demonstrates the group's commitment to supporting the development of Hainan's local automotive industry and economy.

Dr. Liu Yunfeng, Executive Vice President of Volkswagen Group China and Head of Public Affairs and Joint Venture Affairs, said: "With the acceleration of the 'In China, for China' strategy, we are pleased to open a new chapter of mutually beneficial cooperation with Hainan Province and jointly explore the development opportunities of Hainan Free Trade Port. This cooperation agreement covers multiple fields such as mobile travel, vocational education, and marketing. We look forward to working with our partners to effectively promote the economic and industrial development of Hainan Province."

According to the agreement, the Group and the Hainan Provincial Government will continue to carry out "dual system" education based on the cooperation of the Volkswagen Automotive Academy Hainan Center, and cooperate with local vocational schools to optimize professional talent training programs, improve the level of automotive professional teachers, and gradually develop a qualification certification system for automotive industry talents. In addition, Volkswagen Group (China) will also support vocational schools such as Hainan Haikou Technician College to join the Sino-German Higher Vocational Education Project (SGAVE).

In addition, the Group plans to launch a mobile travel project in Hainan Province in phases, initially using ID. series models and jointly developing mass travel services with partners. The Group and its holding subsidiaries also plan to carry out pilot projects related to clean energy and orderly charging in Hainan.

Based on the successful cooperation this year, Volkswagen Group (China) and China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPEX) plan to establish a long-term strategic partnership. Among them, Hainan Province will provide support for Volkswagen Group (China) to participate in CICPEX from 2024 to 2026.

Volkswagen also plans to make full use of local facilities and resources to carry out marketing and communication activities, while strengthening cooperation with Hainan Province in product experience, innovative business display and pilot projects.
