According to foreign media reports, chipmaker AMD CEO Lisa Su revealed that AMD CPU's share of the server market has exceeded 25%, a figure that exceeds analysts' previous expectations of 20%. Under Su's leadership, AMD has maintained a good development momentum in recent years, which is largely due to TSMC's ability to mass-produce chips using its highly competitive process technology. It is reported that AMD's current chips (whether CPU or GPU) are almost all manufactured by TSMC's 7nm, 5nm and other processes. Now, TSMC is key to AMD's challenge to dominant Nvidia in the artificial intelligence (AI) GPU market, although the latter also relies on TSMC for foundry. Currently, Nvidia is a leader in the field of AI, with about 80% of the AI processor market share, and its high-end processors have been used to train and run various chatbots. AMD has long been an underdog in the GPU and CPU markets, and now it appears ready to take on Nvidia in this new arena with the help of Microsoft. In early May this year, people familiar with the matter revealed that AMD will work with Microsoft to develop artificial intelligence chips. Microsoft will provide AMD with financial support and "engineering resources" to improve the performance of its products in AI workloads, and will work with AMD to develop an AI chip code-named "Athena".
