What kind of mobile phone CPU do we need in the era of nuclear war?
In fact, the frequency war and running score war on mobile phones are not unfamiliar to people who have experienced the PC era. The running score war between Intel and AMD was much more lively than today. What is liquid cooling on mobile phones? In the past, PCs had played with dry ice and liquid nitrogen. If you can adjust the frequency after rooting your mobile phone, you are considered an expert. In the past, changing the motherboard capacitor and even adjusting the crystal oscillator on the PC were commonplace. 1. How fast do we need a processor? The excitement on PC started with Pentium MMX. After 10 years, it basically ended in the Core 2 era. After that, very few people are still tossing, but most people are satisfied with standardized products. The era of Celeron 300A overclocking to 450MHz is over. It's not that people don't like high performance, but that the processor is enough for daily applications without tossing. Back then, it was called hardware surplus, which actually meant that the speed of improvement exceeded people's normal perception. In the era of Celeron 300A overclocking to 450MHz, you can clearly feel the sense of speed brought by overclocking when you open a program or a window. Even if you type a word or make a simple graphic, the improvement brought by high performance is obvious. In the era of i3 and i7, 0.001 seconds is a huge improvement compared to 0.01 seconds, and people's perception ability cannot perceive the difference between the two. However, the improvement from 1 second to 0.1 seconds can be clearly perceived. If you cannot perceive the improvement, it is meaningless for consumer products, and the performance improvement of processors is meaningless. 2. The speed of smartphones For smartphones, people's perception includes two parts. One part is the sliding speed of the interface, which is what we usually call the frame rate. The other part is the speed of program opening, which is the speed from when we click on the program to when the program opens. (I) Sliding frame rate In addition to the difference in software efficiency, the sliding frame rate mainly depends on processor performance, memory bandwidth and screen resolution. Each increase in resolution puts higher requirements on the processor. However, due to the limitations of human eye resolution and palm size, 1080P of about 5 inches is basically the upper limit. No matter how large the screen is, it cannot be operated with one hand, and no matter how high the resolution is, it is difficult for the eyes to distinguish. Being able to operate smoothly at 1080P is the standard for smartphone hardware to be sufficient. Any higher is excessive. (II) Opening speed The opening speed of a program is mainly related to the speed of the flash memory, the memory speed, and the processor. The influence of the flash memory is sometimes greater. At present, most programs cannot open in seconds, and there is still a lot of room for improvement in this regard. III. Power consumption of mobile phone processors The power consumption and performance of the processor are contradictory. High performance means high power consumption, while mobile phones use batteries, and low power consumption is required for battery life. Qualcomm solves this contradiction through asynchronous cores, and ARM solves it through large and small cores. Each core of Qualcomm can adjust the frequency separately, turn it on and off. Low load can use one core, maintain low frequency to reduce power consumption, high load cores are fully opened, and high frequency improves performance. ARM uses small cores to meet daily low loads, and large cores for short-term high loads. From the actual use effect, both have a certain effect. For light loads, ARM's large and small core solutions are better. IV. Ideal mobile phone processors Due to the limitations of consumer levels and the needs of marketing, there are now quad-core and octa-core processors, but in reality most programs can only use single-core or dual-core. Too many cores are only useful for running points, and daily use is just a waste of transistors and power consumption, which increases costs in vain. Therefore, the ideal CPU should be quad-core or large and small dual-core. The small core meets daily needs, and the large core copes with high-load scenarios. For daily applications, two small cores can meet the requirements of smoothness. For program opening, complex web page loading, and 3D games, directly turn on the large dual-core or single-core (if the program does not support dual-core). For the choice of large dual-core, you cannot just look at the peak performance but also the duration of high performance. If you have to reduce the frequency after running at full speed for 10 seconds, it doesn't make much sense. At least ensure that the large dual-core can run at full speed for ten minutes. After running a high-load scenario, the fastest processor that can last for 10 seconds may not be the best.
