According to research data recently released by the Journal of Psychology of Popular Media Culture, female users who are keen on posting provocative and sexy pictures on social media such as Facebook and Instagram are usually considered unfriendly and unintelligent. According to the Los Angeles Times, researchers recently presented two different styles of homepages of a Facebook user named Amanda to two groups of female users aged between 13 and 25. One group of people watched Amanda's Facebook homepage wearing jeans, sportswear, and a scarf hanging on her chest. The other group saw the sexy Facebook homepage version of Amanda wearing a provocative red dress with deep cleavage. In this experiment involving more than 100 participants, each of them was asked to rate Amanda in three aspects, including competitiveness, friendliness and attractiveness, after viewing the photos and information. The results showed that the three scores of the revealing version of Amanda were much lower than those of the other version. "This is the first comprehensive study to show that people perceive well-dressed women as more competitive, more friendly and more willing to make friends with them than scantily clad women," said Eileen Zurbriggen, president of the UC Santa Cruz Psychology Association. Zurbriggen's colleague Was Daniels, assistant professor of psychology at the University of Colorado, said collecting data on digital relationships is important because it helps us better understand how online users view others, which can have a huge impact on their friendships and future employment potential. The study also has great implications for the many problems caused by the proliferation of social media, most importantly the narcissism of social media users, which is that social media users sometimes only focus on their own good and bad, and ignore everything else. It is worth mentioning that another independent survey conducted recently showed that about 89.5% of respondents used their own selfies as their social network avatars. On the other hand, a report from Yahoo Technology pointed out that posting sexy photos on social networks without thinking may affect users' work, especially for those Facebook users who have added their colleagues or fully opened their homepage browsing permissions to the public. Therefore, Yahoo Technology recommends that users still put these shameful "quasi-pornographic photos" on Snapchat to "share".
