One million users have participated in testing Windows 10

Microsoft released the first technical preview of Windows 10 in early October. Microsoft said that there are currently 1 million users participating in testing this new version of Windows through the Windows Insider project.

"This means that a lot of you are using the Windows 10 Technical Preview and sending us feedback," said Microsoft's Joe Belfiore. Microsoft has received more than 200,000 pieces of feedback on the initial version of Windows 10, and the most popular suggestions include providing options to remove the new search and task preview buttons and adding Start menu animations or transitions.

Belfield said that of all the Windows 10 Technical Previews that have been installed, 64% were installed to actual PCs, not virtual machines. "This gives us confidence that a lot of feedback is based on 'mid-term' use, not just a few minutes of testing." In addition, 68% of Windows 10 users launch more than 7 apps a day, and 25% of users launch more than 26 apps a day. This shows that users are testing Windows 10 on the devices they use every day.

It's not clear when Microsoft will release a new version of Windows 10 Technical Preview, but Belfill said a new version is "coming soon," and it's clear Microsoft is looking for some initial feedback. "Even though we're only two weeks into this project, we've already gotten a lot of information," Belfill said. "We're working hard to keep up with the enthusiasm of our users."

These 200,000 pieces of feedback will undoubtedly shape Windows 10 in interesting ways, and Microsoft also plans to release regular updates as it approaches its official launch next year.
