Samsung Electronics Financial Report: Samsung Semiconductor Division's Operating Revenue Drops to 66.59 Trillion Won in 2023, a Year-on-Year Decrease of 32%

Samsung Electronics recently released its 2023 fiscal year (ending December 2023) performance report, showing that the semiconductor division lost 14.88 trillion won (about 80.2 billion yuan). This is the first time that Samsung's semiconductor division has suffered a loss in 15 years, and it is also the largest loss in history. The report shows that Samsung's semiconductor division's operating income decreased by 32% year-on-year to 66.59 trillion won (about 358.9 billion yuan).

Among them, memory chip revenue fell 36% to 44.13 trillion won, and revenue from "other semiconductors" such as foundry fell 25% to 22.46 trillion won.

The main reason for such a huge loss is the deterioration of the semiconductor market. Due to the sluggish market for personal computers and smartphones, memory chip prices began to fall since the fall of 2022.

Although major companies such as Samsung have started to reduce production and increase prices, it will still take some time to eliminate inventory.

However, as the market has begun to slowly recover, Samsung's semiconductor division's losses in the fourth quarter of last year were less than expected, and some forecasts suggest that it will turn a small profit in the first quarter of this year.
