TrendForce: In Q4 2023, the revenue of the world's top ten wafer foundries reached US$30.49 billion, with SMIC ranking fifth

According to the latest report released by TrendForce, in the fourth quarter of 2023, the revenue of the world's top ten foundries reached US$30.49 billion, with SMIC ranking fifth and Hefei Jinghe returning to ninth. Among them, TSMC ranked first with a share of 61.2%, with quarterly revenue reaching US$19.66 billion (approximately RMB 140 billion), of which the revenue of processes below 7nm (inclusive) accounted for 67%.

As Apple's demand grows, TSMC's 3nm production capacity and wafer investment are in place quarter by quarter, and the proportion of subsequent advanced process revenue is expected to exceed 70%.

Samsung ranked second in terms of revenue, which decreased by 1.9% month-on-month to US$3.62 billion. Although it received some orders for new smartphone components, most of them were peripheral ICs with mature processes of 28nm and above.

GlobalFoundries ranked third in terms of revenue, with revenue increasing slightly by 0.1% to US$1.85 billion, thanks to an increase in average selling price.

UMC ranked fourth. Due to the weak global economy, conservative wafer investment attitudes of customers, and inventory correction of automotive customers, its wafer shipments declined in the fourth quarter, resulting in a 4.1% quarter-on-quarter decrease in revenue.

SMIC ranked fifth, with revenue in the fourth quarter of 2023 increasing 3.6% quarter-on-quarter to US$1.68 billion, mainly benefiting from rush orders related to smartphones and PCs, but network communications, general consumer electronics, and automotive/industrial control businesses declined.

The agency said that there were three biggest changes from the sixth to the tenth place: First, Powerchip Semiconductor (PSMC) rose to the eighth place thanks to the recovery of dedicated DRAM wafer investment and urgent orders for smartphone components.

Second, Hefei Nexchip received an urgent order for TDDI (display touch integrated driver), and its new CIS image sensor products were released in large quantities, returning to the top ten list, ranking ninth.

Third, VIS fell to the tenth place due to the slowdown in TV-related stocking and the inventory correction initiated by automotive/industrial control customers.
