EleCloud review: a mobile power bank with storage and sharing functions

First of all, let me make it clear here that EleCloud is not just a mobile power bank. It is a smart hardware product that can solve the three major problems of user mobile device connection, storage and disconnection.

But if you only look at the appearance, the first impression it gives is more like a mobile power bank than a USB flash drive or Wi-Fi router. Don't believe it? Then let's take a look.
[Unboxing]
The outer packaging is very simple, with a Liuyun trademark on the front and a Changhong logo printed on the side.

Some specific parameters are on the back. From the red logo, we can see that this is a smart hardware product jointly created by JD+ and Changhong. From the label, EleCloud positions itself as "rechargeable wireless smart storage". From the grammatical structure, the focus seems to be on "storage". Is this really the case?

When you open the box, you can see a white device that looks like an enlarged SIM card. The gray EleCloud logo is printed on the lower right corner. The design is simple and elegant. In addition to the device itself, there is also a data cable and an instruction manual in the box.

This is the front view of the device. Does it look a bit like the power bank you have? Looking closely, we can see that there is a luminous spot in the middle of the cross-shaped concave on the upper right side of the device. We can also guess from the logo on the side that this is actually a Wi-Fi indicator light.

The back design continues its simple style.

There is a silver button on the side of the device, which can display the power level and control the Wi-Fi switch. To the right of the button is a MicroUSB port and a standard USB2.0 port. I believe that friends who often use power banks will not be unfamiliar with them.

Maybe you haven't noticed in the previous picture that there are four small dots between the button and the interface, which are actually indicators showing the remaining power. Seeing this, you may ask: "How big is this thing?", and you will know it by comparing it.
Compared with iPhone 5, EleCloud is about the same thickness, slightly wider, and about 1.5cm longer. It should be said that it is still relatively small in size.
Well, that's the end of the styling. Let's try it out to see if it works well.

As mentioned before, this device integrates three functions: storage, Wi-Fi connection, and mobile power. Don't worry, we will go through them one by one.

The easiest function to use is probably the storage function. It is plug-and-play like an ordinary mobile hard disk. The actual storage space is 15.2G, and the device supports mainstream operating systems such as WindowWindows, iOS, and Linux. But one small detail to note is that when the Wi-Fi function is turned on, the storage cannot be recognized by the computer.

Of course, the use of the mobile power function is not complicated. The official specifically pointed out that Liuyun can be connected to the charger and the mobile phone at the same time, supporting charging and discharging. But it is hard to imagine what kind of weird demand scenarios this function is designed to respond to. Of course, judging from its 93% board-side conversion rate, this approach can indeed waste more electricity. The use of the Wi-Fi function is a little more complicated, and we need to cooperate with the corresponding APP to achieve it.
After installing the application, we need to set up the Wi-Fi environment according to its prompts.
Connect your phone to the device's Wi-Fi environment, and you can directly transfer and manage files. Officials say that EleCloud can connect to up to 32 devices under a stable connection environment. Due to the limited number of devices, this limit test has not been conducted.
In the application interface, we can see the remaining power of the device more intuitively. In terms of transmission speed, after testing, it takes about 2 minutes to synchronize 10 pictures with an average size of about 3MB on the phone to the storage. That is to say, the transmission speed is about 2Mb/S, while the official transmission rate is 150Mb/S.
At the same time, EleCloud can realize direct synchronous playback of 1080p video data streams on mobile devices, which may be a good feature for friends who like to watch TV series but have insufficient mobile phone storage space.
It should be pointed out that when connecting to EleCloud to realize the file sharing function, the mobile phone cannot access the Internet at the same time, and EleCloud does not support the Wi-Fi hotspot function. Therefore, its Wi-Fi function is actually a file sharing function that supports Wi-Fi transmission within the local area network, and this local area network itself cannot realize connectivity with the Internet.
[Summary] In general, EleCloud is a mobile power bank + Wi-Fi private cloud. It can meet the charging and file sharing needs of daily mobile devices, where file sharing can be achieved through Wi-Fi and data cables. The price of this product on JD.com is 188 yuan. The price of a 16G Wi-Fi version USB flash drive ranges from 80 yuan to nearly 400 yuan, with an average price of around 120 yuan. The price of a 5000mA power bank is around 60 yuan.
Therefore, this product is also worth considering for people who often go out and need both file backup and charging.
