The autonomous driving demonstration zone is located in the Sino-French Wuhan Ecological Demonstration City in Caidian District, western Wuhan. Starting from December 17, an electric autonomous driving prototype based on Renault ZOE will conduct autonomous driving tests and demonstrations on a 2-kilometer section of road beside Houguan Lake for two years. This will be China's first open autonomous driving demonstration zone, open to ordinary tourists, who can fully participate in testing and experiencing Renault's autonomous driving vehicle.

Renault officials said that "the future of automobiles lies in the development of electric, connected and autonomous vehicles" and that it will gradually launch autonomous vehicles in the future and introduce "hands off, eyes off" technology on affordable mainstream models. This technology is designed to make roads safer, driving more pleasant, and give people more time to use on the road.

In addition, after 2020, in accordance with new road traffic regulations in various countries around the world, Renault plans to equip its core series models with "eyes-free" technology. This technology will first be used in highways with dense traffic and frequent starts and stops, and will then be used in more complex highway conditions. In the future, when conditions permit and regulations mature, drivers will be able to fully enjoy smart connected cars, gain better safety and more free time.
