Google released its first 2-in-1 tablet computer, Pixel C, in September this year. Different from other Android tablets, it not only has a 10.2-inch large screen, but also comes with an external keyboard. The prices of the 32 GB and 64 GB versions are US$499 and US$599 (about RMB 3,200 and RMB 3,840), respectively, which is very close to the iPad Air 2. However, can it shake the iPad's dominance in the tablet field? Let's take a look at this issue's review. 1. Appearance Design The back of Pixel C is made of anodized aluminum alloy. It looks and feels like a high-end tablet. The dimensions of the phone are 242 x 179 x 7mm and it weighs 517 grams. It does not look as thin as iPad Air 2. Unfortunately, Pixel C does not support fingerprint recognition. At the same time, the screen border is wide and the screen ratio is not very high. There are also dual stereo speakers on both sides of the body, and the USB Type-C interface is located at the bottom. In addition to charging and transmitting data, it can also be used to charge other mobile phones or Pixel computers. On the back of the body, the 8-megapixel main camera is located in the top corner on the left, and in the middle is Google's iconic 4-color light strip. Unlike Apple, Google did not make its own logo so obvious. Double-clicking the colored light strip can display the remaining power, which can be presented even when the phone is turned off, which is very user-friendly. In terms of feel, since Pixel C uses a straight corner design, it will feel a little uncomfortable if you hold it for a long time. Overall, the craftsmanship and design of Pixel C are still very satisfactory, but there is still a gap compared with iPad Air 2, especially when the two are put together, you will find that iPad Air 2 is obviously thinner and more refined, so Google still needs to work hard in this regard. 2. Screen Pixel C uses a 10.2-inch screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1800 and a pixel density of 308ppi, far exceeding the iPad Air 2 (264ppi) , and the display effect is crystal clear. In terms of brightness, it is 25% brighter than mainstream tablets and can reach 500 nits. The screen content can be easily read even under direct sunlight. It can be said that this screen is quite perfect, and you can get an excellent visual experience . Even the iPad Air 2 can only look up to it. 3. Keyboard Google has designed an external Bluetooth keyboard for Pixel C, which costs $150 (about RMB 962). The biggest advantage is that it can be matched automatically. Users do not need to set up Bluetooth . They can just plug the tablet into the keyboard and use it. At the same time, the tablet can also wirelessly charge the keyboard, which is very convenient to use. The tablet and keyboard are connected by magnetic adsorption, and the magnetism is very strong. You can lift the two at will without worrying about them falling apart. The bracket on the keyboard can maintain different angles, and users can freely adjust the viewing angle. This keyboard can also serve as a protective case. Just flip the screen over, and slide the screen under the tablet when needed, which has a wide range of usage scenarios. In terms of keyboard design, the traditional key layout is adopted. The key surface feels comfortable and the key travel is 1.4 mm . Although it is slightly short, you can adapt to it after using it for a period of time. The disadvantage is that the "Enter" key and the "@" key are rectangular in design, which is a bit strange. In actual use, the typing experience of this keyboard is still good, but it is a pity that it does not have a touchpad. You have to click the screen from time to time, which leads to incoherent input and affects typing efficiency. There is no Home key on the keyboard. You have to click the screen every time you return to the home screen. The detail design is not perfect. 4. System Experience Pixel C runs Google's latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which allows you to enjoy the purest native Android experience. The most notable feature of Android 6.0 is the addition of the Now on Tap function. Google's latest Doze mode can identify the usage status of the device and automatically close background applications if it is not in use, thereby extending battery life. For Android tablets, the application experience is always a shortcoming. Although there are many applications in the Google Play store, the quality is not high, and there are few applications that are truly optimized for tablets. Compared with the related applications of iPad, Android tablets still have a long way to go. 5. Hardware and performance Pixel C is equipped with a 64-bit quad-core NVIDIA Tegra X1 processor and 3GB of RAM . The multi-core score of Geekbench 3 is 4449 points, which is much better than similar Samsung or Sony tablets and is basically the same as iPad Air 2. In actual experience, its system runs very smoothly , App loading speed is very fast, and running large games such as Real Racing 3 and Asphalt 8 is stress-free. Pixel C performs well in screen and performance, but it is a bit sorry for the audience in the camera: the front 2 million pixel and rear 8 million pixel camera are not equipped with flash! It is a bit shabby for a high-end tablet. Its sample photos are also very bad, with serious graininess and obvious loss of details. So don't expect to take pictures with it. In terms of sound effects, the dual-sided stereo speakers sound full and the sound quality is great ; Pixel C is also equipped with 4 microphones, which is very convenient for video chats or voice wake-up Google Now. In terms of network connection, Google only provides WiFi version, which supports 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac 2x2 MIMO. Compared with other tablets, it is a pity that Pixel C does not support 4G network. 6. Battery life Google claims that the battery life of Pixel C can reach 10 hours. In our actual test, when connected to WiFi and playing a high-definition video for 90 minutes, the brightness was maintained at 100%, and the battery power dropped from 100% to 73%, a drop of 27%. Compared with other tablets, this result is not ideal. However, since the brightness of Pixel C is very high, even if it is adjusted to 50%, you can still get a good viewing experience, so the battery life is still good in normal use, and it also supports fast charging. 7. Summary Pros: It is probably the most beautiful Android tablet currently, with a stunning display, powerful performance, the purest native Android experience, and the ability to get system upgrades as soon as possible. Cons: The body is not thin enough, the camera performance is poor, the input experience is inconsistent, and the external keyboard is slightly expensive. In general, Pixel C is the best Android tablet on the market. Although it is not cheap, its overall performance is worth the price. If you really like Android tablets or are tired of iPads everywhere, then Pixel C is definitely the right choice.
