Speaking of OLED, the industry believes that it is the only way for smartphones to go in the future, so mobile phone manufacturers have to take this path, but the current situation is that Samsung has an absolute monopoly in this industry, so for Samsung, this business line has successfully reversed Samsung's decline. The latest news shows that Apple has placed an order for 70 million "bendable" OLED screens from Samsung, which will be used in the iPhone 8.

Currently in this field, Samsung has the most advanced OLED screen technology, so Samsung naturally becomes Apple's first choice. Samsung has therefore become the only OLED panel supplier for iPhone 8, and Samsung should be secretly happy. At the same time, Apple's large-scale purchases may directly make it difficult for domestic manufacturers to purchase Samsung OLED screens in the first place, which in turn affects the development of domestic mobile phones this year. Samsung relies on OLED to turn things around. As the absolute overlord of the global OLED market, Samsung has achieved a shipment target of 400 million OLED panels in 2016, and has significantly increased its production target for 2017 to 550 million, a target increase of 37%. Despite this, the market demand for Samsung OLED panels is still difficult to meet. From the earlier Samsung flagship mobile phone Galaxy S series to the recent Huawei Mate 9 Pro, OLED panels have become the goal pursued by the world's leading smartphone brands.

Apple's strong demand has caused Samsung SDI's OLED panel production capacity to be tight, and more importantly, if the iPhone uses OLED panels, it will bring a strong imitation effect and accelerate the transfer of the small and medium-sized panel market to OLED technology. At present, Samsung SDI's market share in the small and medium-sized OLED panel market exceeds 90%. Although many domestic manufacturers are involved, they cannot shake Samsung SDI's dominant position at this stage. As market demand is about to explode in 2017, Samsung SDI will further consolidate its voice in the market. The report said that Samsung's OLED screens are mainly supplied to its own flagship models, and then to Chinese mobile phone manufacturers. The long-term market share of more than 90% is enough to prove the reliability of Samsung's OLED screens in the industry, which is why Apple lists it as the primary screen supplier for iPhone 8. According to previous rumors, Apple will launch three iPhones of different sizes this year, among which the 5.8-inch iPhone 8 is equipped with an OLED screen. If nothing unexpected happens, Samsung will be fully responsible for the first screen order for iPhone 8.

Apple will lead the OLED screen. There will be more and more manufacturers in the future. OLED is on the eve of an explosion. All upstream, midstream and downstream OLED screen manufacturers are desperately expanding production to cope with the explosion in the field of smartphone terminals next year. In the future, in addition to smartphones, OLED screens may be promoted in TVs, VR, and even lighting. However, Samsung's good days may not last too long, because there are already many industry giants catching up with the production progress of OLED screens, including BOE, Sharp and LG. Apple is currently in secret negotiations with Chinese screen manufacturer BOE. The two sides have been conducting sample tests for months on OLED screen cooperation, which also indicates that Samsung's days will still be difficult in the future.
