Meizu Flyme exposed a large-scale security incident: hackers locked the phone and blackmailed users

Recently, a large number of Meizu mobile phone users reported on Weibo, Tieba and Meizu community that their personal mobile phones were suddenly locked, and the interface showed that they needed to contact a certain QQ number to unlock it, and a fee ranging from 80 to several hundred yuan was charged.

Searching for "lock" in the Flyme community yielded more than 3,000 results, and the vast majority of posts in recent days were about the malicious lock issue mentioned above. Through relevant feedback, we found that the issue first appeared on September 8, and then broke out from September 9 to 11, with the models that were maliciously locked covering almost all Meizu mobile phone products.

The relevant users generally responded that they had never logged into any bad websites or installed any bad software, so some netizens suspected that Meizu’s user database had been leaked, or that there was a vulnerability in Meizu’s Flyme server and it was maliciously exploited by hackers.

In addition, when encountering a locked situation, some users tried to retrieve their Flyme accounts by contacting customer service, but were prompted that the Flyme account did not exist, and official appeals and other methods also ended in failure.

For users who have not been hacked, it is recommended to log out of the Flyme account and use the phone to prevent hackers from using the account to remotely lock the phone.

At present, Meizu has not made any public response to the incident.
