The first two belong to the hardware level, which can be seen and touched, while the latter is the software level. We cannot see the code one by one, but it can improve the performance and stability of SSD. In this issue of SSD story, let's discuss whether there are any changes after the SSD firmware is upgraded? What is the use of upgrading firmware? Firmware is called Firmware in English, abbreviated as FW or F/W, which is used to optimize the main control. If the main control is the heart and engine of a car, then the firmware algorithm is equivalent to the driving computer, which controls the SSD read/write and transmission algorithm, and reasonably allocates data to the flash memory. It is mainly used to improve the bugs of the solid-state drive and tap the potential of a solid-state drive. When the hardware such as flash memory and main control cannot be replaced, the firmware upgrade becomes an effective means for players to "trouble" or improve the performance of SSD. Another interesting data is that in Sep Q64 read and write, the continuous read performance has decreased after the upgrade, although this data is not very useful for reference in our daily use. AS SSD Benchmark software test <br /> Results before and after the upgrade In the AS SSD Benchmark test, the 4K-64Thrd random IOP write increased from 80308 to 57267, which is a relatively large increase. In addition, the total score also increased from 1055 points to 1170, indicating that the write performance of this SSD has been significantly improved after the firmware upgrade. TxBENCH software test <br /> Firmware scores before upgradeFirmware scores after upgradeIn the TxBENCH software test, almost every read and write score of Toshiba A100 120G SSD has improved after the firmware upgrade, although the performance improvement of read and write is not large. PCMark8: Comprehensive performance testPCMark8 has multiple built-in test items, among which the Storage test item evaluates the performance of the hard disk, including two games and various office application tests. They are the game loading tests of "World of Warcraft" and "Battlefield 3", Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe After Effects, Adobe lllustrator, Microsoft Office Word, Office Excel and Office PowerPoint, etc. These applications and software can simulate the actual usage of users well, so as to comprehensively analyze the final score of this solid state drive. After upgrading the firmware, in the PCMark8 test, the score of Toshiba A100 120G was 4720 points before the upgrade and 4865 points after the upgrade, with a total score difference of 145 points, which also reflects the performance improvement brought by the optimization of the firmware algorithm.
