[November 22, 2022, Shanghai, China] In October 2022, the State Administration for Market Regulation and the National Standardization Administration officially approved the release of GB/T 18801-2022 "Air Purifier" national standard, which will be implemented on May 1, 2023. The standard appendix contains a new automatic mode purification performance test method. This method framework is similar to the Dyson POLAR (Point Loading and Auto Response) test method. Both start from real home scenes, providing a realistic perspective close to consumers' daily usage habits for the testing and evaluation of air purification equipment, and also providing scientific reference for the new national standard "Automatic Mode" appendix and making industry contributions. Pay attention to problems that others tend to ignore, and strive for excellence to explore innovative paths Based on in-depth user insights and research, Dyson engineers found that consumers are accustomed to placing air purifiers in a corner of their homes rather than in the center of the room. What many people overlook is that this usage habit may pose a challenge to the uniform purification performance of air purifiers throughout the house. Based on years of in-depth research on air quality and professional experience in the field of air purification, Dyson developed the POLAR test in 2017, and based on this test, in 2018, it jointly developed the "Jet Automatic Air Purification and Air Supply System" technical solution with the China Household Electrical Appliances Research Institute (CHEARI). Subsequently, the technical solution was upgraded to the "Technical Requirements and Test Methods for Intelligent Modes of Air Purifiers" group standard in 2019. During the revision of the national standard GB/T18801 for air purifiers that began in 2019, the POLAR method framework was proposed to the drafting working group. After multiple verifications and revisions, it eventually formed a new appendix to GB/T18801-2022. The concept of the Dyson POLAR method is to simulate the purification needs of users in real home environments in a larger indoor space, to test product performance in a way close to real usage scenarios, and to ensure its air purification capabilities in real life scenarios. Matt Jennings, Dyson Environmental Care Category Director, said: "The concept of POLAR testing can contribute to the update of national standards, and it is also a recognition of our insistence on bringing 'real benefits' to consumers through technological innovation. Especially in recent years, with the continuous improvement of Chinese residents' health awareness and the diversification of home lifestyles, people's demand for advanced air purification technology has continued to rise. Among them, Dyson not only pays attention to the latest demands of Chinese consumers, but also actively cooperates with authoritative testing institutions in the industry to jointly provide consumers with high-quality air purification equipment." Adhere to scientific and rigorous standards and continue to fulfill air quality commitments As a global research and technology company, Dyson has been actively engaged in the research and development and innovation of air purification technology for many years, and has continued to conduct indoor and outdoor air quality research around the world. From in-depth exploration of air pollutants to long-term formaldehyde removal and other technological innovations, Dyson has more than 10 years of air quality research and technology accumulation, and continues to explore new possibilities for air purification technology. In China, Dyson continues to pay attention to changes in people's lifestyles and the ever-changing healthy breathing needs. On the basis of traditional tests, it is closer to the real usage scenarios of consumers, develops the POLAR test, and works with CHEARI to gradually upgrade it from a technical solution to a group standard, and provide scientific references for national standards to verify the uniform purification performance of the product and ensure the whole house air quality in a real home environment. Compared with traditional tests, Dyson engineers strive for excellence and conduct POLAR tests in an 81-cubic-meter laboratory that is closer to the average living space. Without installing an additional mixed-flow fan, the air purifier is placed in a corner, and 9 sensors are used to continuously monitor the air quality data of the whole house to evaluate the filtration performance, sensor performance and uniform purification effect of the air purifier. This test can comprehensively and effectively ensure the cleanliness and health of the air quality of the whole house in a real home environment. Zhang Xiao, deputy director of the Testing Institute of China Household Electrical Appliances Research Institute, said: "I am very happy to witness the achievements of the Dyson POLAR method from its inception to the present, especially that the testing experience and data over the years can provide reference for relevant institutions and industries in the process of updating national standards. With the continuous development of my country's air purification industry, we believe that we will see more scientific innovations based on real consumer insights in the future, and we look forward to working together to promote the high-quality development of China's air purification field." Focus on real home needs and create "no dead angle" pure breathing Based on the rigorous multi-dimensional evaluation of air purification equipment by the POLAR group standard test, Dyson air purifier fans can ensure uniform purification throughout the house[1]. The Dyson air purifier fan series are equipped with multiple sensors to achieve accurate indoor air quality monitoring. Dyson Air Amplifier airflow multiplication technology can evenly diffuse purified air throughout the home[1]. POLAR tests show that Dyson air purifier fans can monitor pollutants 4.6m away in real time. After intelligent purification in automatic mode, the monitoring point with the highest pollutant content in the room was only 0.00000504g/m[3]. In addition, effectively solving air pollutants such as fine particles remains the key to helping consumers create healthy indoor air. Dyson's new generation of air purifier fans are equipped with H13-level HEPA filters[2], which filter and capture 99.95% of ultrafine particles as small as 0.1 microns[2]. At the same time, Dyson's new generation of air purifier fans can filter up to 99.9% of H1N1 viruses[3], human coronavirus 229E and OC43 aerosols[4]. The built-in activated carbon filter can absorb odors[5] and harmful gases such as volatile organic compounds[6]. The design of the whole machine HEPA seal[7] ensures that pollutants are firmly locked in the body while delivering clean air - Dyson engineers use high-pressure seals at 24 key points[7] to prevent dirty air from leaking through the gaps between the filters or bypassing the filters and spraying pollutants back into the room. Among the many air pollutants that are invisible to the naked eye, the ubiquitous formaldehyde problem in the home is often a major concern for people. In addition, the long release cycle of formaldehyde makes efficient and sustainable solutions a top priority. Therefore, Dyson has equipped its air purifier fan series with a solid-state formaldehyde sensor. Combined with Dyson's unique algorithm, it can accurately and continuously monitor formaldehyde levels for up to 7 years[8]. It has an anti-interference rate of up to 99.9% for alcohol[9] and can exclude the influence of other gases - other gases are monitored by special VOC sensors. At the same time, Dyson air purifier fans are equipped with a catalyst filter[10] that can continuously remove formaldehyde molecules[11]. The filter uses a unique coating with billions of atomic-sized pores inside, which can efficiently capture formaldehyde molecules and decompose them into trace amounts of water and carbon dioxide. The filter then supplies oxygen from the air to keep the catalyst active, thereby achieving the effect of continuously removing formaldehyde without the need to replace the filter. As an expert in air quality research and purification, Dyson is not satisfied with traditional laboratory tests, and further conducts POLAR tests in an environment closer to real home use scenarios, which puts higher requirements on its own technology and products. In the future, Dyson will continue to explore more possibilities of POLAR testing and use innovative technologies to meet the ever-increasing health needs and expectations of Chinese families. [1] The test was conducted by China Household Electrical Appliances Testing Institute and the conclusion was drawn based on the purification uniformity test according to T/CAQI 85-2019. [2] Based on the ISO29463 standard, the particle test was conducted by SGS of the United States using diethylhexyl sebacate (DEHS) oil particles, and the test result showed that the filtration efficiency of the whole machine was 99.95% or above. [3] The filtration results of H1N1 influenza virus were tested and issued by China Household Electrical Appliances Testing Institute. The test method specified in GB21551.3-2010 was used, but the target was influenza A virus (H1N1). The H1N1 virus removal rate was tested for 60 minutes in a 30 cubic meter test chamber at 10 wind speeds in the diffusion mode. The above experiments were conducted under the specified experimental conditions, and the actual usage may be slightly different from the experimental results. [4] The human coronavirus HCoV-229E and HCoV-OC43 were tested by a third-party testing agency, Guangzhou Institute of Microbiology, with reference to the methods in GB21551.3-2010 and T/SAEPI005-2020. Under the laboratory's specified conditions, the machine was placed in a 30m3 test chamber and operated in diffusion mode at 10 wind speeds, and the human coronavirus removal rate was tested for 90 minutes. [5] The test was completed by an independent third-party organization, Olfasense UK Ltd. in 2022 based on the EN13725 standard. The odor removal experiment was conducted on cigarettes and cat urine in a 3 cubic meter test chamber. After 30 minutes of purification, the odor removal was objectively evaluated by an olfactory sensory expert. Actual usage may vary. [6] Tested by China Household Electrical Appliances Testing Institute (CHEARI), based on the clean air quality test results for nitrogen dioxide and benzene according to GB/T 18801-2015 standard method. [7] The test was based on the ISO29463 standard, using diethylhexyl sebacate (DEHS) oil particles and was conducted by SGS of the United States. The test result showed that the filtration efficiency of the whole machine was 99.95% or above. [8] This conclusion is based on Dyson’s internal testing method and is calculated with reference to GB/T 18883 indoor air quality formaldehyde limit values. [9] Based on laboratory test results at 50% relative humidity and 25°C room temperature. [10] Catalyst filter is suitable for HP09, TP09, PH04. [11] The third-party whole-machine test is based on the formaldehyde cumulative purification test method in GB/T 18801-2015, using a continuous injection method to load formaldehyde gas until a stable formaldehyde clean air delivery rate (CADR) is measured. Actual usage may differ slightly from the experimental results. Note: Unless otherwise clearly stated, the above data and information are all from Dyson's internal experiments or collection.
