What do you think? Cook: A large part of the iPhone is produced in the United States

Apple CEO Tim Cook recently said that a large portion of the iPhone is actually produced in the United States, according to CNBC.

Previously, Cook had said that Apple's flagship phones were assembled elsewhere, but he later clarified his remarks, saying that Apple has "production facilities" all over the United States.

President Donald Trump has touted Apple as one of the top companies investing domestically in the United States, and the company said in January it planned to contribute $350 billion to the U.S. economy over the next five years through taxes, capital investments and job creation.

Cook said Wednesday that the company doesn't need "political pressure" to add U.S. jobs, saying "we're already doing that."

Cook made the comments in interviews with Re/code and MSNBC after Apple unveiled a cheaper iPad that supports the Apple Pencil and software to help improve education.

Apple is hoping that sales of its new iPad, which is primarily aimed at schools, will help it regain some education market share from Google and its Chromebook laptops as it faces "deteriorating demand" for the iPhone.

Cook said the hardware giant is looking to expand its domestic presence with major hubs in California and Texas. He said Apple will not launch a "competition" like Amazon did in its search for a second headquarters. Cook explained that Apple does not want to do this through state and city governments, a situation that would only create one winner and many losers.

Cook also decried the high cost of higher education and reiterated his strong opposition to moves to repeal the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, which provides legal protections for child immigrants, saying such a change in the United States is "unimaginable."
