WeChat's new iOS version hides a tech Easter egg: scan and translate a whole page of English

On May 23, WeChat for iOS was updated to version 6.6.7, adding several long-awaited new features, such as the ability to shrink the web page/article being browsed into a floating window, separate display of recently used emojis, optimized design of the top bar of Moments/web pages, etc.

In fact, in addition to those functions, there is also a hidden black technology easter egg——

In the latest iOS version of WeChat, the scan-to-translate function has been fully upgraded. It is no longer limited to translating words. When you encounter a whole page of paper English, you can translate it all + replace the layout by scanning it. It takes less than 3 seconds to translate a whole page of English.

Now, just open WeChat and “scan” the part you want to translate. In less than 3 seconds, the entire page of English will be translated into familiar Chinese. Moreover, the page layout is very clean and beautiful.

PS: Currently, the scan-and-translate function only supports translation between Chinese and English, and does not support translation into other languages. Please stay tuned for more new capabilities.

Officials said that this time, in order to achieve the upgrade of translating the entire page, the scan function also combined the OCR (optical character recognition) capabilities of Tencent Youtu and the technology of the WeChat translation team.
