Kotlin continues to power Android development and plans to expand into more areas

On October 3rd this year, KotlinConf 2018, the Kotlin community's annual live event, was held. 2018 is the golden year for Kotlin, and the language continues to be adopted and loved by a large number of developers. In fact, 27% of the top 1,000 Android apps on Google Play have adopted Kotlin. More importantly, according to our recent survey, Android developers love the Kotlin language, with a satisfaction rate of over 97%. In the 2018 selection of the best programming language on the StackOverflow website, Kotlin ranked second, which is also well deserved.

Google supports Kotlin as the preferred programming language for Android development. In the past year, we have released many important improvements to improve the Kotlin developer experience. These include a Kotlin-friendly SDK, Android KTX, new Lint inspections, and various Kotlin support improvements in Android Studio. We also released Kotlin support in the official documentation, new flagship samples in Kotlin, a new Kotlin introductory Udacity course, the "31 Easy Kotlin Learning from Shallow to Deep" event, and other in-depth content. We are committed to continuously improving the Kotlin developer experience.

As the Kotlin language continues to advance, more and more developers around the world are discovering the benefits of Kotlin. Not long ago, we went to India to communicate with local developers such as Zomato to understand how their development projects benefited from adopting Kotlin. Zomato is a leading restaurant search and discovery service that operates in 24 countries and has more than 150 million monthly users. Kotlin helped Zomato significantly reduce the amount of code in the app and also helped them find major defects in the app at compile time. You can learn about their story of adopting Kotlin in the video below.

Not just Android, we are happy to announce that the Google Cloud Platform team has launched a dedicated Kotlin homepage. This will help developers more easily find Kotlin-related resources on Google Cloud. We hope that you can use Kotlin as easily as possible, whether on mobile or in the cloud.

For most companies, adopting a new language is a big decision, and they must make sure that the language they choose has a bright future. To this end, Google and JetBrains have joined forces to establish the Kotlin Foundation. The foundation will ensure that Kotlin continues to develop rapidly, is always free, and is always open. For more information about the Kotlin Foundation, please visit https://kotlinfoundation.org/

It's time to rejoice, Kotlin developers. If you haven't tried Kotlin yet, we encourage you to join this rapidly growing global community. You can get started by visiting kotlinlang.org or the Kotlin for Android Developers page.
