Apple recently said that it respects the Fuzhou court and its ruling and will release an iPhone software update next week to resolve the two patents involved in the patent case. Earlier today, Apple pushed the iOS 12.1.2 update, which modified two functions related to Qualcomm's patents. According to the update notes, this update "introduces new animations when force quitting an app" and "updates share sheet controls for setting contacts and wallpaper images," both of which are related to Qualcomm patents. According to Qualcomm's previous statement, the Fuzhou Intermediate People's Court issued a preliminary injunction prohibiting Apple from importing and selling iPhone models including iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X in the Chinese market. The patents involved include resizing photos and managing applications on the touch screen. Apple said the ban only applies to iPhones running iOS 11 and earlier. Since the above iPhone models can be upgraded to iOS 12, the company believes it can continue to sell these iPhone models. In addition, this update also fixes the eSIM activation issue for iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max, as well as resolves issues that may affect cellular connections for iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max in Turkey. |
