In fact, Android phone makers have always struggled in the mid-range market.

There's no denying that the iPhone 6C will certainly help Apple. The iPhone 6C will likely be a plastic-covered version of the iPhone 5S. The biggest benefit to Apple CEO Tim Cook and his team is the inclusion of TouchID on a low-cost device, which will not only make the phone's touch features more user-friendly (unlocking the phone and authenticating iTunes purchases, for example), but will also allow Apple's next "big thing" in Apple Pay to flourish across more of its product portfolio.

It is important to point out that the iPhone 6C (and the current lower-end iPhone 5C) are not extremely cheap smartphones. In fact, the iPhone 5C still costs £319 in the UK market. The iPhone 6C will be the iPhone that everyone else can own, but for some users, the iPhone 6C may not be sexy enough; for developers, the iPhone 6C may not be powerful enough; and for media news collectors, the iPhone 6C may not have enough storage space. But the iPhone 6C will continue to open up the Apple ecosystem to a large number of people.
