Huawei’s consumer business CEO Richard Yu said the company has developed its own operating systems for smartphones and computers in case U.S. tech giants stop licensing existing systems to it, Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post reported.
Yu Chengdong said the company has developed a proprietary system, which confirms last year's report. People familiar with the matter said the company started developing its own operating system in 2012. "We have prepared our own operating system. If we can no longer use these systems (Android), we will prepare to start Plan B," said Yu Chengdong. "Huawei does have backup systems, but they are only used when necessary. To be honest, we don't want to use them," a Huawei spokesman said on Thursday. "We fully support our partners' operating systems, we like them, and our customers like them too." |
