iOS 12.5.1 official version released, dedicated to older models

Apple has been on vacation, and it feels like we haven't received any iOS system update push notifications for a long time.

iOS 14.3, released by Apple a month ago, is the latest official version of the system. In addition, Apple has also launched the iOS 14.4 beta system.

Now, Apple has finally released a new system update, but only for old models.

Apple released the iOS 12.5.1 system update for older models early this morning. This update mainly fixes the error problem of exposed notifications.

Last month, Apple pushed the iOS 12.5 system update to older iPhones/iPads, which mainly brought the exposure notification function.

Apple has expanded the exposure notification feature to iPhone models that don’t support iOS 14, including the record-breaking iPhone 6.

iOS 12.5.1 supports the following models:

  • iPad Air
  • iPad mini 2
  • iPad mini 3
  • iPhone 5s
  • iPhone 6
  • iPhone 6 Plus
  • iPod touch (6th generation)

In the update notes for iOS 12.5.1, Apple said, "This update addresses an issue where exposure notifications may incorrectly display the logging profile language."

Users of older iPhones can update now.

It is rare that iPhone 5s / iPhone 6, which were released about seven or eight years ago, can still receive Apple's system update support.

Apple added exposure notifications to iOS 13.7 and iOS 14 systems, provided contact tracing functions for the epidemic, and now expanded it to more models through the iOS 12.5 update.

You can see the exposure notification function in the settings options.

When users enable exposure notifications, iPhones can exchange random IDs with other devices, and the random IDs collected by the devices are stored in the exposure log for 14 days.

iPhones regularly check their exposure logs to see if the user may have been near someone diagnosed with COVID-19.

If a user is diagnosed with COVID-19, the random ID can be shared with public health authorities to notify others of possible exposure.

Currently, exposure notification has been enabled in the country and can be enabled in Settings-Exposure Notification.

The system will guide users to download the "Communication Travel Card" app developed by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, and they can enable exposure notifications after downloading.

Recently, the epidemic situation in Hebei and other places has become severe again. Xiaoguo recommends that everyone turn on the exposure notification function of iPhone to better prevent the epidemic.
