Is your Apple phone outdated? iOS 15 is coming this year, and these devices are not supported

When it comes to system support for older phones, Apple may be the second, and no one dares to say that they are the first. Usually, an Apple phone and tablet can get at least four years of system support. For example, the iPhone 6S from many years ago can now be updated to the iOS 14 system, and Apple even provides a small upgrade to iOS 12 for older devices.

However, it is impossible for a device to update its system endlessly. For example, the old iPhone 5 cannot support iOS 14. So when Apple continues to launch iOS 15 this year, a batch of Apple devices will not be able to upgrade to this version. Basically, these tablets and mobile phones are outdated.

At present, iOS 15 will only support devices with Apple A10 and above chips, which means that old iPhones such as iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus and 2016 iPhone SE that use A9 chips cannot support the new iOS 15. They should only be able to stay on iOS 14. At most, Apple will provide some minor security upgrades in the future.

In addition to mobile phones, Apple's iPad mini 4 launched in 2015, iPad Air 2 launched in 2014, and iPad 5 launched in 2017 cannot be upgraded to iOS 15. They are equipped with A8, A8X and A9 chips respectively. Although these devices seem to have been launched not too long ago, their chips are indeed relatively old. It seems that at least iPad mini 5 and above can support the latest iOS 15.

So if your Apple phones and tablets still use chips before A10, you can consider changing them. On the one hand, they do not support the latest system and cannot get more new features from Apple; on the other hand, these chips are also struggling with some current applications. Although my iPhone 6 Plus can use iOS 12, it does feel sluggish when running, and it takes a long time to open the software, which is a very bad experience.

In addition, as we said, some devices may not be suitable for upgrading to the latest system, even if they are indeed supported by Apple's new system, such as iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPod touch 7, etc. These devices happen to use the A10 chip. After using iOS 15, I am afraid it will not be very smooth. Perhaps staying on iOS 14 is a better choice.

We recommend that if you want to get the latest system updates while running your Apple device smoothly, it is more reliable to replace your phone or tablet every three years. Usually, Apple's iPhone can get about 4 or 5 major system updates, but after three updates, the hardware may not match the system requirements, and users should consider upgrading their phones.
