On August 18, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a notice this afternoon to "look back" on issues such as apps illegally calling up contacts, location information, and harassing users with pop-up windows when opening the screen (the 8th batch in 2021, the 17th batch in total). The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology stated that it has recently organized a "review" of three prominent problems that users have strongly complained about, namely, apps illegally accessing contact lists and location information, and harassing users with pop-up windows when the app opens. It was found that 43 apps still had problems that were not completely rectified, technical means were used to resist, and the same problem was rectified inconsistently in different regions. The above-mentioned apps should complete rectification before August 25. If they fail to complete the rectification or the rectification is not in place within the deadline, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will deal with it in accordance with the law. The list of problematic applications announced by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology includes WeChat, Tencent Video, iQiyi, Ctrip, Enterprise WeChat, Tencent Maps, Sohu Video and other applications. |
